Nuneaton 3 v MK Wanderers 1

Nuneaton Town Youth welcomed the return fixture against MK Wanderers ON A BRIGHT SUNNY DAY!!!! Nuneaton opened impressively and within the first couple of minutes, Ross Proudlock’s superb movement, which was a feature of his game today, opened up space for Olly English to advance centrally and shoot just wide from 20 yards. Stephane Kemoagna who was a constant threat throughout the game responded with a mazy run through the Nuneaton defence, though only resulting in a corner. 10 minutes gone and a Nuneaton corner was only partially cleared, the ball was fed wide to Joe Hagen who crossed for Olly English to power a header in for 1-0. Nuneaton were starting to dominate the first half but the MK defence were resolute in their efforts. Sam Jay in the MK goal was having to work hard and a dangerous free kick from Pa Njie eluded most of the players but Sam still had to save twice with his feet. He then blocked well from the advancing Dave Evans who drove a powerful shot, the rebound then also being blocked by Darryl Wilson from Olly English. Derrick MacDonald was also a main threat for MK down the left hand side with his trickery and pace. 25th minute and it was 2-0 to Nuneaton, the tenacity of Kiefer Stewart getting a toe to the ball for his first goal for the club. It was soon 3-0 after Brad Griffith latched on to a through ball, rounded the keeper superbly and tapped into an empty net. It was then after all this pressure that Stephane Kemoagna scored for MK. Running across the Nuneaton defence from right to left, he seemed to have been forced out of the danger area but he unleashed a shot across Richard Stead into the far right hand corner. HT 3-1

The second half was again full of opportunities to score. After just a couple of minutes of the 2nd half Joe Waterfield, who was at his industrious best, combined with Brad Griffith wide on the right. He then fed the onrushing Kiefer Stewart who jinked past the final defender only to put his shot wide. Several minutes later the same player was in the exact same position only to have his shot blocked on the line. MK’s best chance came from a forceful run through the middle from Kemoagna, pressured by Sean Gregson he shot powerfully at the onrushing Stead who blocked out to Ryan Coyle who again was foiled superbly by Stead. A great double save which in hindsight did a great deal to win the game. Further chances came and went and the result remained 3-1 at full time. Best wishes to Simon and the lads at MK for the rest of the season.
