| 2009/2010 season over view |
Our season was blighted by long periods of not playing due to poor weather and pitches availability, that said good runs in both cups saw the team grow in confidence and would pay benefits as the year rolled on. The county cup was interesting in that we played teams from youth leagues mixed at u18 & u17 the majority from the south bucks league, we progressed well against these teams but at a cost, Ricky Reynolds breaking an ankle and spending most of the remaining season getting well again. A good run tot eh quarter finals saw our progress halted by UCL Premier league youth side Maidenhead Utd taking the win, never the less a great experience. From January onwards we got a run of fixtures and had to play half the season within a four week period, this run saw our form come into play and good wins from teams and oh so many near chances as well, loosing games by a solitary goal against teams that had beaten us convincingly in the first half of the season the transition in form was remarkable, the cohesion and team spirit soured upwards we were in great form playing the last nine games winning 4 drawing 2 and loosing 3.
The team were probably pushed a game to far on the last day of the season having played two games that week already we lost our last game and missed out on a joint mid table finish, but we had made up so much ground in the last ten games to give us back our pride and believe. Next season we are going to U18 and hope to see new players in the squad, if you wish to come along call me on the numbers above or come to Kent’s Hill our home ground. Some players have decided to stop with work and other interests taking place, but the core of the side are still here and looking forward to next season, as well as hopefully playing a part in our senior sides at both South Mids Leagues and North Bucks Leagues should they wish to. This was a tough season but in the end a very enjoyable one. |
Sunday 18th November 2007 MK Wanderers B 2 V 3 MK Wanderers A League Cup 2 Rnd
A club derby that looked to offer a good afternoons football, with both teams performing well in their relevant leagues it looked to be a competitive game. MKW A started a lot brighter than us and we were soon under pressure from the two strikers Pius and Harry, our back four working hard to maintain the status quo, Ayo and Jay with Carl and Sam would play a very important part as the game went on. The pressure was relentless and signs of their quality started to punish us excellent movement and passing enabled an early goal 7 mins into the game we were chasing the lead already.
Not exactly the start we wanted and the pre game chat about not conceding early went down the tubes, I think that was the wake up call the boys needed and whilst
MK A continued to push forward there were signs that we were starting to compete in key areas of the pitch.
Just when it looked like we had started to settle another through ball out wide and a cross ball saw them take another goal, although my initial thoughts were off side? However not given the boys really had a mountain to climb, would they crumble? Would they raise the challenge?
As the game settled down and we managed to negate some of their play we gained in confidence and probed forward getting good ball out wide to Joe and his fainting runs causing their left back problems, some good link up play with Chris and Perry was giving us good possession Ed's domination of everything aerial in the middle was starting to pay off.
Approx 30 mins into the half we managed to work some space on the left side where Marlon had been working hard and a lobbed pass to Ollie saw him hit it on the way down to blast into the net 2 v 1 the MK B's were lifted by this and carried on pressing forward all the time being mindful of the threat the MK A had when play broke down.
Late in the first half we were given a free kick won by Chris & set up for Joe to take a shot.
Joe hit the free kick at great pace and power and at a good height, to all our amazement Sam pulled off a great save pushing it past the post, both aspects of the move a tribute to Wanderers players' great free kick and a great save.
At half time we chatted in the dressing room about how we get this goal back? and unchanged we came out looking to do the same again but support better going forward with Ed playing a holding role in mid field, and supporting when needed, we continued to work their left back who was struggling with Joe and his ability to bring Perry and Ollie into play, from a wide movement a ball across the box saw Ed hit the equaliser 2 v 2.
It was game on here in, and both teams had periods where they dominated and defended well as it swung back and forth, the clock was ticking away for extra time and my thoughts went towards how we play extra time?, at 39mins 21second on the clock a goal mouth scrabble saw the ball full favourably to a MK A player and the goal was scored, with only a matter of seconds left there was no time to do anything about it, which I'm sure we could of, nevertheless a fantastic game from both teams and a very creditable performance from MK B with two very good goals for their efforts. All of this testament to the boys and the way they are approaching their football this year, our thanks to Simon and his boys and we wish them success in the cup next round |
Sunday 21st October 2007 MK Wanderers 3 - 1 Water Eaton Youth
The team entered this game with a good level of confidence but still with a good level of respect for the opponents, We appeared to start the game the brighter but we were not convinced this would last through the 80 minutes. Again numerous missed chances let them off the hook early on, and this seems to be pattern we fall into every game.
We continued to play good exploring football asking questions of their back four on regular occassion, at the 23 min mark Joe opened up the scoring in a well worked goal drifting in and heading down into the ground and beating the keeper.
Half time came and we looked a little unsettled everyone seemed to be playing well but we lacked a little posession in the middle of the park, second half we came under pressure a bit and although we managed to weather the storm it did concern us a bit. Ayo took a knock and went off for a blood injury he got repaired and went back on, during one of their attacks a ball was driven into the box and bounced against a players hand and the penalty was awarded, 1-1 at this point it was hard to see who was going to get the next goal as both teams pushed on being exposed when out of posession. Our defence and midfield looked solid and coped well we managed to get the ball down and play through the middle and out wide where Joe was allways a threat taking on their left back and winning time after time, from one of his runs his low level cross was met by John and we retook the lead 2-1 Wanderers. With Ed holding the middle and Perry playing off him we created numerous probing runs, from one of these on the left Marlon and Carl pressed forward and overlapped to meet another one of Joe's crosses for Carl to deny the keeper, having made a great double save and thump it in on the third attempt 3- 1 Wanderers.
We played with great believe and tenacity and won the points on pure football, but we had to work for it and it wasn't allways pretty the boys showed real character and believe in each other, man of the match Joe Francis, well deserved but the whole team worked hard for a valuble win. |
Sunday 14th October 2007 MK Wanderers U15B 3 – 0 Old Stratford
Our first home game of the season and we were keen to make it a good display with the right result. Pitch was in perfect shape the weeks rain making for a good surface, first half got off to a good start the boys looking creative and making some great runs and some good initial opportunities, with the team getting back to full strength it wasn’t long approx 17 mins before John was put through on goal and he slotted hi shot wide of the keepers outstretched hand 1 nil to the wanderers.
As the game pressed on Old Stratford showed their ability and tried on numerous attempts to break through only to be stopped in their tracks by Ayo, Jay, and Sam playing a great game at the back.
It wasn’t long before Marlon who had looked lively all afternoon was played in and seeing the goalie off his line lobbed him from 25 yards a great finish 2 nil wanderers.
Half time and all seemed well, and having said same again next half the boys didn’t disappoint, we continued to show great invention in attack and the midfield of Ed and Perry with Alex playing off the striker looked solid, the boys kept pressing and on occasions having to defend as well, a low clearance for the Old Stratford goalie was met by Alex’s head playing John in as Alex’s was taken late form behind in the back the ref playing the advantage allowing John to cross the Perry Musto for this first goal for the team 3 nil wanderers.
Alex sat out the remainder of the game but his contribution was productive in the last goal, we continued to press but were unable to score any more great performance by all players, showing good football and flashes of brilliance. A real squad effort it was a pleasure to watch. |
Sunday 7th October 2007 Moretonville 1- 2 MK Wanderers B U15 The last our current games on the road was after a two week break in the fixture list, all the boys looked football hungry in the training session on the Friday, but how would that roll out in the game? Well on the biggest pitch we've seen this season, it was clear fitness was going to play a part, and from the whistle we looked like the more creative of the two sides making but not converting numerous chances, something we've been guilty of all season, never the less the boys stuck at it and on the half way point in the half John took his first goal. Another early addition would have been good but we had to wait for it,so many lost chances letting Moretonville of the hook time after time, Jay Perry took a knock at centre half and we had to change it around a bit, Sam Leo coming on and doing well in the defence. Alex on his debut putting in a good solid performance that will only improve as he becomes comfortable in the role and around his new team mates. A slip in the midfield allowed Moretonville on goal and even stevens again, how would the boys answer this having played so well still with key players missing, Joe made probing run after run and the welcome return to the midfield of Perry Musto gave us the cutting edge to find the winner slipping the ball into Ollie who laid of a pass that John took very well making it 2 - 1, the second half we totally dominated the game making endless attempts but with no additions to the score, a good win and some very good football in the process. We look forward to our first home game this Sunday. |
Sunday 16th September 2007 Woodside Rovers 2 - 1 MK Wanderers U15B
This was going to be a tough day, no 1st choice goal keeper, no right back, no right winger. With a little shuffling of the pack we set our selves out in the best way we could, George Bailey took up the mantle of goalie with Luke at right back, Ollie dropped into right wing and Adam made his first start up front with John.
With an injured substitute we were looking to reduce any damages and hold onto anything we could, first half started okay we looked in control with Jay Perry and Ayomides doing a real good job at the back as a central pair, Woodside appeared to only have one definite striker and so was easy to pick, again on a small pitch we managed to keep a lot away and reduce exposing George to full on attacks.
Totally against the run of play and having made numerous chances to be at least two up we surrender a soft goal instigated from a soft back pass not reaching the player, 1 nil Woodside with half time looming we carried on pushing forward and commanding the game the Woodside goalie excelling in every way. In contrast George having very little to deal with due to great all round work rate.
The second half was pretty much same again boys and it will come, and so it did 7 minutes in great link play in the middle with Perry, Adam, wide to Ollie and through to john gave us the well deserved equaliser 1 - 1 game on. Both teams strived to get the winner and whilst we had numerous chances from a corner we were guilty of not clearing a loose goal line ball and it was poked in 2 - 1 Woodside.
Not prepared to accept this result the boys kept pushing forward creating more and more chances surely something would give, John was through on goal one on one with the keeper, touched the ball around him the open goal gapping in front only for him to touch it wide form the increasing angle.
A lesson learnt, definitely a point dropped probably two. |
Sunday 9th September 2007 Woburn Lions 2 v MK Wanderers U15B 3
After a good pre-season and seeing many positives within the side, we travelled to Woburn for our first league game, our preparation was good and everyone looked in a determined frame of mind.
Almost on queue the sun appeared and the temperature went up, it was going to be a hot afternoon. From the whistle our opponents seemed to be a little livelier than us but it wasn't long before we picked up the pace.
After a period of possession we probed forward and broke through their defence for John Ringrose to score his first goal.
Three minutes later is was clear they were unable to cope with our continuous attacks and Ollie Butcher scored our second, in the same time frame three minutes, John broke through again from a through ball to score his second our third.
Three goals in nine minutes in the first half was a great start, we went in three nil up at half time.
Second half was to be different; several minutes into the half Perry Morgan cleared the ball into safety but collided with an opponent, in doing so hitting the ground hard his outstretched arm being broken.
Substitutes came into play Sam Leo replacing the hospital bound Perry, Woburn seemed to gain a second wind and lifted the game to put us under a period of pressure, on a small pitch their midfield received the ball and hitting a looping lofted ball over and into our goal, a very speculative and successful attempt on goal 3 - 1 their pressure continued and the same scenario happened, another looping speculative attempt into the net Jack had no chance, his positioning being perfect all game and having very little to do in open play we were all a bit bemused by these goals.
Another substitution for us saw Marlon go off with a dead leg and Luke come on to left wing, we continued to have the majority of play and had goal line clearances, headed attempts hit the bar, and open goal shots missed, final score was a well deserved and for Woburn a flattering three two result. A good start to the season two deserved points, all players performed well playing quality football and creating numerous chances, keep going boys they will come at someone's expense |
