Gt Linford 4 MK Wanderers 3

What a great game of football. With only twelve fit players available, Wanderers came to Gt Linford with a positive attitude and a game plan to take all three points. The passing was crisp, the movement was first class and the determination was second to none. Employing a back three of Gavin, Dan and Michael, the midfield five with Midge playing the holding role, Wanderers soon took hold of the game and caused Linford some problems. Dean was back in action after two weeks out, Arnold having a fine game out on the left, and Dale looking lively on the right, Linford found it difficult to break the Wanderers down. With 20 minutes gone, the ball was played out to Barry on the left, he took a couple of touches, clipped the ball towards the far post which beat the keeper and ended up in the back of the net. Linford being a very good team, was soon back on level terms within 3 minutes after a Wanderers move broke down. The ball was played out wide and with the midfield struggling to get back, the ball was played square to the Linford forward who coolly placed the ball in the corner of the net. That’s how it stayed until half time.

Wanderers came out for the second half in determined mood and continued to take the game to Linford. For the first twenty minutes it was one way traffic with the away side taking the initiative. Several chances went begging before Barry exchanged passes with Arnold, continued his run and blasted the ball into the roof of the net from close range.
At this stage of the game, it only looked like one winner, but as a famous player once said, “it’s a funny game football” More chances went begging, the most notable was when Leighton had only the keeper to beat, he allowed him to smoother the ball at his feet. With 15 minutes to go, Linford scored three goals, to take a 3-2 lead. They made it 4-2 with five minutes to go before, Barry completed his hat trick to make the score line a little respectable. Based on Wanderers performance they deserved more out of the game, however, you’ve got to take your chances, Linford did and Wanderers didn’t. Man of the match was Barry for his hat trick followed close behind by Arnold who had a great game.

Pottespury Res 2 MK Wanderers 3

Wanderers continued their winning ways by beating Potterspury Reserves after a hard fought contest. With the game only 4 minutes old Wanderers was awarded a penalty which Barry dutifully put away. Wanderers continued to dominate the game only their passing some times let them down on a less than even surface. Pottespury enjoyed good spells during the half but Wanderers held firm to go in at half time 0-1.

In the second half Wanderers continued to be the better team and doubled their lead early in the half with another goal form Dale. Pottespury continued to press and probe but were frustrated by a determined young Wanderers team. With twenty minutes to go, Wanderers were awarded a corner, from the resulting corner, skipper Dan netted his first goal of the season with a neat header. Potterspury, never a team to throw in the towel, was rewarded when some sloppy defending by the Wanderers midfield gifted a free kick out side the box. From the kick, Potterpury was back in the game with a well taken goal. With 6 minutes to go Potterspury had made it two and Wanderers were being asked some searching questions. For the remaining minutes of the game Wanderers were holding on and was relieved to hear the final whistle.

Steeple Claydon Res 0 MK Wanderers 2

Having put 10 past Steeple Claydon Res a couple of weeks ago, it was never going to be same again. Obviously Steeple had improved their team and they worked hard to contain a lively Wanderers side, who were trying to knock the ball around on a pretty sticky pitch. With six minutes on the clock a smart move down the left hand side saw Wanderers cut open the Steeple Claydon defence for Barry to slot home. Wanderers continued to try and play football and the midfield in the early stages found it difficult to get hold of the game. Give Steeple Claydon their due, they hung in there and caused Wanderers problems in that area, however they had no cutting edge to trouble Lee in goal. Several chances went begging with poor decision making by the Wanderers forwards and some indifferent refereeing. The referee threatened to abandon the game after he had sent off a Wanderers official after mistakenly identifying him for making a comment about his decisions. Barry should have made it 0-2 mid way through the half when he rounded the keeper only for him to miss from two yards claiming he was clipped before he got his shot off. HT- 0-1

The second half was a mirror of the first with Wanderers taking early control and dominating play. There was a greater emphasis on getting the ball out to wide areas and better movement all round. On one of the moves where the ball was played out wide, Barry nodded in his and the teams second goal. Could they now go on and make the opposition pay? Dogged defending, great goal keeping and poor finishing kept Steeple Claydon in the game. The Wanderers forwards must realise that when in the box, get your shot off and not to dilly dally. There was a scare after about sixty minutes when from a fairly decent corner, the ball popped around and was finally cleared by the Wanderers defence. Wanderers never really looked like losing the game but they had enough chances to have finished. Wanderers rue the number of chances they missed; they may not get a better opportunity to increase their goal difference.

MK Wanderers 0 Bletchley Town 1

With the game being cancelled by the council at Kents Hill, the fixture was switched to Bletchley’s home ground at Selbourne Avenue, Bletchley. Both teams started tentatively with Wanderers taking early control and frustrating the Bletchley front line. The game was fairly even with both teams going close, on twenty seven minutes Bletchley won a corner after some good football down the left. From the resulting corner, Wanderers cleared their lines only for the Bletchley full back, Phil King to clip the ball back into the area only for the ball to end up in the back of the net at the far post. Wanderers hit back with some good approach play with Eric controlling the middle of the park and Midge winning personal battle with Nick Crossley, Town’s influential midfielder and skipper. HT- 0-1

With their noses in front Town began the half with more purpose. The young Wanderers never know when they are beaten and despite some rigorous challenges by a bigger and stronger Bletchley hung in there. Oke playing the lone forward up front was ably helped by Dean and Midge from midfield, but the wide players JT and Dale found it a little frustrating. Midway through the half, Wanderers replaced Oke and Dale with Ashley and Barry respectively. Wanderers continued to get at Town and some smart defending kept Wanderers at bay. Round about the seventieth minute, Eric was severely challenged in the middle of the park and needed treatment for a serious knee injury. During the treatment an incident took place which resulted with Ashley being shown a red card together with a Town player. This took the edge of the game and Wanderers lost their composure and failed to recover. New signing Roland Coleman replaced Eric to see out the rest of the game. The last twenty minutes or so was a bit of a non event with Bletchley content to hold on to what they’ve got and Wanderers consolidating. This defeat ended their seven game unbeaten run. Man of the match Midge.

MK Wanderers 10 Steeple Claydon Res 0

In a one sided affair Wanderers put ten past Steeple Claydon Reserves on Saturday 26th January at Kents Hill Pavilion. Claydon’s team manager was unavailable due to work commitments, his young side despite being severely beaten showed great fight and spirit, a credit to him. The game was effectively over in twenty minutes with Wanderers 4-0 up, hit the bar twice and the post once. HT 5-0.

In the second half Wanderers continued where they had left off, however, they will need to improve as their overall performance leaves a lot to be desired. With Bletchley Town the next game, the management is looking for a much better overall team improvement all round.

Wolverton Town 3 MK Wanderers 4

Wolverton and Wanderers in a 7 goal thriller

In atrocious weather conditions, Wolverton and Wanderers fought out a 7 goal thriller with Wanderers coming out on top. This was a typical top half table clash with both team showing fight, endeavour and opportunism. A fairly even contest with Wolverton taking the initiative and putting Wanderers under some early pressure, however, the Wanderers defence marshalled by Dan Allen and Michaeld Viard heped by both Gavin and Karl held firm. Wanderers should have taken the lead on twenty four minute when Arnold had a wonderful opportunity to give them the lead when he was put through only for his shot to go high, wide and handsome.
Wolverton Town took the lead on the half hour when No 10 Mark O’Conner fired a shot into the roof of the net from a superb pass from Marella. Wanderers tried to get back in the game by taking control of midfield where new signing Eric Darkwah making his full debut being supported by Oke and Dean. The conditions didn’t really suit Oke’s game as he struggled to get hold of the ball in wet and slippery conditions. HT 1-0

Oke was replaced in the second half with Ashley who was returning after a couple of games lay off. Karl had experience a twisted ankle in the first half and was replaced by Midge. From the kick off, Wanderers played the back towards their goal, indecision in defence led to the Lee bringing down No 8 for a penalty within 25 seconds of the restart. The penalty was successfully dispatched by No 8 Marella. Wolves had asked the question, could Wanderers answer it. Ashley was instructed to hold the central midfield position, get the ball out to wide areas in order to get at the back four. Dean and Eric suddenly found a little more room to work and Wanderers started to gain the upper hand. On or about the 51st minute, Wanderers was awarded a free kick, the kick was cleared only for the ball to fall to Dean who drilled his shot passed the keeper Bewick. Wolves complained to the ref that the goal was off side, the ref overruled their appeal and the goal stood. Wanderers continued to push forward as they sensed they could get something out of the game. Five minutes later, Wanderers equalised with a direct shot from Barry that eluded the keeper, game on !!!. Mid way through the second half WANDERERS introduced Festus for Arnold to give more running power up front. Wolves kept up the pressure and for a stunning performance in goal by Lee, Wanderers could have foud themselves behind. Wolves kept up the pressure and a number of raids on the Wanderers goal saw Lee making some superb saves to keep Wanderers in the game. With Wolves taking the game to Wanderers, they forces a number of corners, from one of the resulting corner Wolves took the lead through Marella who managed to forced the ball pass the Wanderers keeper. Twelve minute on the clock and Wanderers kept knocking on the door. The breakthrough came when Wanderers was awarded a corner, Barry sent the corner across which eluded the keeper for the equaliser. With only a few minutes to go, Wanderers sealed victory when Dean ran on to a pass to slot the winner past Bewick left hand. A well fought contest with Wanderers finally putting one over their arch rivals. Man of the match was Lee in goal who on a number of occasions kept Wanderers in the game.

MK Wanderers 3 Kingfisher Titans Res 2

With not having a game for two weeks our performance was lack lustered, inept and devoid of any invention for the best part of thirty five minutes. We never really got going, our passing, movement and passion was way below par. Kingfisher took the lead after 10 minutes when a cross was floated in the area, Kay totally missed judged the flight of the ball as it sailed over his outstretched arms into the net. Wanderers huffed and puffed but could not get going, every pass was either too hard or too soft, players were waiting for the ball to come to them and were second to everything and the only bright spark was Oke who was having a good game in the middle of the park. On 40 minutes, the ball was played out Barry on the left who beat the full back crossed and Dean was on hand to tap the ball into the net for a deserved equaliser. Although the lads wasn’t playing well they were the better side and last ten minutes they found a little of last years form. In this period leading up to half time, we began to play a lot better; with Oke running things in midfield supported by Dean and Midge we had the upper hand. Dean made it 2-1 at half time after a great ball was knocked in by Midge from the left.

The second half started with Kingfisher taking the initiative and boxing Wanderers in their own half for the first ten minutes. Wanderers battled and managed to get to grips with things and started to dominate. Oke continued to probe with his passing releasing both JT, Barry and with better luck could have made the game safe. Midway through the second half Dean completed his hat trick which a shot just inside the box. New signing Eric Darkwah was introduced when Gavin was replaced due to sustaining an earlier ankle injury. Kingfisher forced a number of corners as they upped the tempo looking to get back in the game. From one of the resulting corners, Kay unfortunately dropped the cross which they netted from to make it 3-2. Arnold and Aaron replaced JT and Barry respectively, Wanderers held on to secure three valuable points. In summary, not a great performance, it was lack lustred, devoid of passion but the lads held on for the three points which they derserved. Man of the match, Oke Odunayo, kept the midfield working.

Yardley Gobion Res 1 MK Wanderers 5

Coming off the back of a free weekend due to the weather last week, Wanderers came out he blocks and within ten minutes were 0-2 up with goals from Barry and Dale. With the brothers Ashley and Karl Bench missing due to Christmas festivities, Gavin came in at right back and Arnold slotted in as the main striker. Along side Gavin in the back four was Dan, Michael and Midge. The midfield three included Barry supported by Dean and Oke, with Dale and JT completing the line up. Wanderers played some of the best football in the first twenty minutes, brushing Yardley aside, Barry and Dean completed the scoring before half time. For the last twelve minutes of the game Wanderers began to lose their rhythm and shape due to a couple of refereeing decisions not going their way. Firstly Oke played a great ball through the middle for Dean to latch on to only the linesman to flag for off side (iffy), then a couple of minutes later, Barry played the ball wide to JT who skinned the full back, hit a cracking shot against the post at the same time Arnold attempted to head home only for the ball to hit his hand after it had crossed the line. The linesman flagged for hand ball ruling out a perfectly good goal. Although they had lost a little composure and discipline, Wanderers continued to attack and JT hit another cracking shot against the bar. HT 0-4.

In the second half, Wanderers continued where they left off playing some good football in parts. As a contest the game was effectively over and the lads sometimes got a little complacent with overplaying by taking an extra touch and the final ball going nowhere. Aaron replaced Arnold mid way through the second half and he himself had a couple of half chances. From one of the number corners, the ball ricocheted in the box and was converted by one of their defenders to make it five. Yardley scored a consolation goal where Midge and Barry failed to clear their lines and Rob Vernon intercepted the ball and chipped Kay from outside the box. All in all a good result, not a bad performance, but we must learn the art of strangling weak opposition. We continue our quest to improve. Man of the match, Dan Allen, superb at the back.

MK Wanderers 2 Lavendon Res 0

In windy, wet and freezing conditions MK Wanderers continued their recent good form by beating Lavendon Sports Res at Kents Hill. With having to make a couple of changes due injuries, Wanderers maintained their familiar system of 4-3-3, with Barry moving to left back and Oke coming into the three man midfield. Wanderers play was scrappy at the best of times; having won good position they then gave the ball back to Lavendon purely because they were sloppy in their movement and sloppy in their passing. The game was played in the Lavendon half for the first fifteen minutes with Lavendon defending well and counter attacking which caused the Wanderers defence to be at their best. Following some sustained pressure, Wanderers won a corner. From the resulting corner, Barry managed to squeeze the ball into the net off of a defender with Dale in close attention. For the rest of the half it was Wanderers pressure and Lavendon counter attacking. HT 1-0.

In the second half Wanderers began to take control of the game by a) keeping the ball better than the first half and b) putting together more passing moves, however, they still lacked consistency. JT was consistently moaning about not getting enough of the ball and when he got the ball he was in the wrong position to affect the play. The back four played really well with both Dan and Michael locking things up and Karl and Barry taking the opportunity of getting forward when the opportunity presented itself. Midway through the half good combination play where Karl played the ball into midfield, Dean picked it up and played a great ball through for JT to run onto where he lobbed the ball over the keepers head to double our lead. This was after the referee had disallowed what looked like a Lavendon equaliser after the linesman had flagged for off-side. Aaron was replaced for Arnold in the 65th minutes and soon got into the action. On virtually the last kick of the match, Arnold netted only the ref to blow his whistle before the ball hit the back of the net. That would have been Arnold’s first goal since September, suffice it to say he was more than disappointed. The lads now travel to face Pottespury Reserves next week looking to maintain this good run of form. Man of the match, our keeper Kay, another fine display.

MK Wanderers 3 Linslade 1

MK Wanderers returned to winning ways as they entertained Linslade at Kents Hill to record their first win in five games. Barry Sislay put the Wanderers in front after ten minutes from some superb play from midfield. The now established 4-3-3 line up of, Gavin, Dan, Michael and Karl in the back four, Dean, Ashley and Aaron in midfield and the front line of JT, Dale and Barry. As well as the returning Kay in goal, Wanderers welcomed Lee who turned out at short notice last week, Oke and Ade returning from injury and other commitments. The opening minutes of the game was played with Wanderers taking charge and playing some good football particularly the midfield three. However, they sometimes rode their luck as Linslade were a little unfortunate not to take the lead from a corner. The defence failed to clear their lines at the first attempt only for Kay to pull off a goal line point blank save. From the resulting clearance, Wanderers counter attacked and Barry netted from close range. For the remainder of the half Wanderers played well, Ashley and Dean were instrumental in the good things the team did, sometimes over playing and not releasing the final ball when it mattered. Linslade for their part kept on prodding and probing and with a bit more luck could have levelled. They found some joy going down the left hand side and on a couple of occasion managed to whip the ball into the box only for it to be cleared by the back four. HT 1-0.

Linslade came out in the second half determined to level things up, within four minutes prodded home an equaliser. For the next few minutes Linslade had the lion’s share of the game, getting in and breaking up a number of the Wanderers moves. It was plain to see that Wanderers had loss the rhythm they had in first half. Too many times possession was loss due to sloppy play and indecision. Gradually, Wanderers began to settle down and pass the ball more accurately and getting behind the back four. On sixty minutes Dean put the home side ahead when he netted from close range. Oke came on and replaced Aaron mid way through the second half and soon found himself just outside the box having a shot on goal. With game coming to a close Barry completed his brace, Lee replaced Kay in goal and Ade came for Dean with ten minutes left. On reflection, the boys played well yet again, this time they got the result they deserved. Man of the match was Ashley Bench.

North Bucks & District League Cup
Gt. Lindford 3 MK Wanderers 1

Having lost their last 4 league and cup games, Wanderers travelled to Great Linford in search of a positive result. With a couple of players missing including Kay the goal keeper, Wanderers only had twelve players and believed they could get something from the game. Lee Knight came into the side for his first game since sustaining an injury in pre-season (thanks Lee for coming in at such short notice). The game started with Linford taking the initiative and putting Wanderers under pressure early in the game. A succession of corners led to Linford taking the lead on eight minutes after Wanderers failed to clear their lines, young Aaron Wardle didn’t get out early enough and Linford’s Cully put them one up. Employing the 4-3-3 system of Gavin, Dan, Michael and Karl in the back four, Dean, Ashley and Midge in midfield and the front line of Aaron, Dale and Barry, Wanderers soon settled down and played some good football. However, a lack of discipline particularly in midfield gave possession to Linford on many occasions. On 25 minutes Dean went on a massy run exchanged passes with Ashley on the edge of the box and with our first real shot on goal, Ashley levelled, his first goal since coming back in to the side. Wanderers continued to press forward and forced a couple of corners with Dan going close with an header just over the bar, Ashley, Midge and Barry also saw efforts going begging. Just before half time Gt Linford took the lead when Beevis got round the back of the defence to score. HT 2-1.

Having had a couple of thing sorted out at half time, Wanderers soon took control of the game and for the next twenty minutes had the lion’s share of the game. Wanderers need to learn the importance of going for the jugular when they are in the ascendancy. Too many times they try to run the ball in the back of the net instead of shooting. They dominated the middle of the park; Midge played more of a central role allowing both Ash and Dean to get forward, so when the attack broke down we were not left exposed. The back four was pretty solid with both Michael and Dan in superb form ably assisted by Gavin and Karl, Dale toiled up front with some assistance from Barry and Aaron but we just couldn’t make it count. New signing Jamie Foster replaced Aaron on 65 minutes, this allowed us to push Ashley further forward and move Dale to the wing. Following a raid down the right hand side, the ball was played in by Dale, no challenge on the keeper, the ball was released and a quick counter attack, Beevis again popped up to make it three, thus ended the contest. Wanderers are learning some hash lessons; we must kill teams off and shoot more often. Man of the match was Michael Viard.

Berks & Bucks Saturday Junior Cup
MK Wanderers 2 Hale Leys Utd 4

Wanderers entertained Hale Leys Utd from the Aylesbury league in a very competitive Berks & Bucks Junior cup tie. Hale was reinstated in the competition after Aylesbury Utd Reserve teams’ misdemeanour. This was game played a blistering pace with lots of passion and commitment from two young and hungry sides. In the early part of the game, Hale was the more dominant side with their movement and speed. Apparently this is the tenth game they have played together as a side and looked the more accomplished team; however, Wanderers missing a couple of their influential players never really looked out of place. Both teams are a footballing side’s and always looked to get the ball down and play. Hale soon took control of the middle of the park and played some good football, Wanderers defended well and countered attacked in fits and starts. Employing a 4-5-1 formation with Kay in goal, Gavin, Dan, Karl and Michael in defence, Aaron, JT, Ashley, Barry and Midge in midfield with a lone striker in Dale, the plan was for midfield to get forward early to support Dale. Hale were quicker and offered more movement to stop the Wanderers machine getting into gear. Half an hour into the game, Hale raided down the left hand side and playing some good football on the right. The ball was played into the box where Ryan Blake nipped in ahead of the defence to put Hale into the lead. Wanderers stepped up their game and were level within five minutes when Midge converted Barry’s free kick. At this point both teams would have settled for this at half time. On 40 minutes Hale were awarded a corner after again playing some good stuff, from the resulting corner kick, Jordan Oxley sneaked in at the near post unchallenged to make it 1-2 to the visitors. Wanderers continued to press forward and were awarded a corner in the 44minute where Dale got in front of the defence to glance his header into the corner of the net to level the score at 2-2.

Wanderers came out in the second half determined to get hold of the game by getting more men forward. Aaron was replaced by Festus who had come back into the team after a few weeks out on sabbatical. Wanderers now employing a traditional formation of 4-4-2 set about getting at the Hale defence. Both teams played some really good football and for the next thirty minutes it became a game of wills. Ashley worked very hard in midfield, the back four particular skipper Dan and Karl stood up to all Hale threw at them, Kay was again superb form in goal. On seventy five minutes Hale took the lead from a corner, when Mo Johnson tucked away a half chance. Ashley was suffering from cramp and while he was off the pitch, Festus picked up the ball in midfield and went on a run. He managed to get beyond the defence curled his shot towards the top corner only for the keeper to parry the ball against the post. Dan had a great opportunity to level the score but he headed over the bar from close range. Hale made it four in stoppage time when Mo Johnson smashed the ball in the back of the net after we had given possession away just outside the box. A disappointed end to what was a great game, but this young side will learn from this and will be better in the long term. They have nothing to be ashamed of. Man of the match, Karl Bench.

MK Wanderers 1 Gt. Linford 2

The second week on the trot we have been hit with a goal within two minutes. A ball from the left back position to midfield caught us out, and from the resulting attempt on goal that Kay push out for a corner, centre back M Cullen rose above our defence to net with a powerful header.

Wanderers hit back playing some decent football in parts, however, far too many miss place passes and not enough movement to really trouble the opposition. With Karl coming back into the side from injury, Wanderers reverted back to 4-4-2 formation with Dan, Michael and Midge making up the back four, Dale, Oke, Dean and JT making up the midfield with Ashley and Barry playing up front. Wanderers have been playing some good stuff and creating many chances but we are unable to take our chances. Our mid field found it difficult at times to break down Gt Linford and kept trying to go through the middle, where the obvious opportunities was getting the ball out to the wings for Dale and JT to feed off. Midway through the half a clash of heads between Richardson and Oke resulted in Richardson going off, temporary leaving Linford with ten men on the field. With fifteen minutes to go before half time, Oke won position, played a ball into Dean who in turn found Dale on the left with the best pass of the game. Dale calmly played the ball round the keeper and into the net for the equaliser. HT 1-1.

The second half started just like the first; again we were hit with an early goal, this time within three minutes. Linford came out with a purpose about their game and quickly forced a corner. Wanderers failed to clear their lines and Austin their full back found himself in position to nudge the ball over the line from close range. Wanderers were told to improve on the passing, get the ball out wide and keep the game simple. Get the back four up a little sharper and start to compete more, i.e. get in amongst them. Linford was not having any of it and battled to stay in the game and for the next twenty minutes were the better team. Dean was replaced as he was feeling the effects of the previous weeks knock, Michael dropped into midfield and Gavin dropped into the right back position. Wanderers started to win control of the game and began to push Linford back. Some good passing movements down the right hand side with a ball played through to Oke who should have levelled the score, his weak effort from inside the box didn’t hit the target. Arnold and Aaron came on for Ashley and Oke and Wanderers continued to make and waste chances. In the dying minutes of the game Arnold had the best chance to level things up but he spurned his chance by putting the ball over the bar from what looked like five yards. Man of the Match were Dan Allen and Dale, Dale not only scored, but was involved in a number of the best moves of the game. We play Gt Linford again in League cup in two weeks time; let’s see if we can gain our revenge.

Lavendon 3 MK Wanderers 2

With the game only 4 minutes old a smart pass from midfield set Dean frees and as he chased the loose ball was clattered by the goal keeper and left on the ground winded. This wasn’t a good day for the Wanderers as the goal keeper (Kay) failed to show up due to illness, Steve Joyce the coach volunteered to go in goal. Steve was soon in the thick of the action and pulling off a couple of early save. A fairly even contest with both teams having chances, however, it’s fair to say that for the first twenty minutes Lavendon were the better team. Wanderers played with a back three of Michael, Dan and Midge and five in midfield with Dale, Oke, Dean, Barry (welcome back from injury) and JT, the strike force of Arnold and Ashley. The game plan was for the midfield three to win position and get the ball out to wide areas and for Dean and Barry to support the front two. Wanderers could not get hold of the game, with captain Dean taking that early knock we could not get our rhythm going and Lavendon dominated the middle of the park. Slack marking from Wanderers allowed Lavendon to take the lead on twenty minutes with a goal from Johnson. The defence were asked to do more than necessary as a result of the midfield were not getting back quick enough. However, with good play from Barry getting JT involved on the left, the ball was played into the penalty area and Dean notched his twelfth goal of the season, HT 1-1.

The second half started with Wanderers setting about taking the initiative. However, Dean was still feeling the effects of the early challenge and indicated to the coaching staff that he was struggling. Lavendon seized on a mistake by the Wanderers defence and K Budd made it 2-1. Arnold was substituted for new signing Aaron Wardle to give us a little bit more movement up front, soon after Dean was replaced by Ade to shore up the middle, with twenty minute to go Lavendon extended their lead when N Larrum made it 3-1. This was not a true reflection of the game, however, the game is about chances, Lavendon took their chances and Wanderers did not. A few smart challenges tested the referee and he was called in to stamp his authority on the game to stop it getting out of order as Wanderers went in search a goal. Good play from Wanderers with Barry now pulling the strings, poor finishing left them cursing their luck. A break through came when JT managed to get to the ball first and force the ball over the line to make it 3-2. Game on, Wanderers continued to search for the equaliser and Ade went close with a shot from twenty yards just over the bar, Oke Dale and Ashley all went close. With ten minutes to go, JT forced the ball over the line for what looked like a well deserved equaliser, only for the ref to rule no goal. As you can imagine this infuriated the coaching staff as what looked like a perfectly good goal was ruled out. Wanderers pushed forward in search of the equaliser, they were caught on a few occasions where Steve had to drawn on all his experience to thwart three one-on-ones near the end to keep us in the game Lavendon. Wanderers hit the wood work a couple of times and goal keeper J Umney had a great game. All in all a thoroughly good game filled with lots of incidents. Wanderers can only reflect on not taking their chances.

MK Wanderers 0 Wolverton Town 2

Wanderers unbeaten run came to an end against second place Wolverton Town at Kent’s Hill Pavilion. With the game only three minutes old, Wolverton won midfield possession, Jermaine Cuffy found Kesio Stockley with a pass through the Wanderers defence and he made no mistake by placing the ball under Kay as he came off his line.

Wolverton continued to force the pace but Wanderers soon found their rhythm and started to take control of the game. With a back three of Karl, Michael and Midge, a midfield five of Dale, Oke, Matt, Dean and JT, Wanderers were beginning to win the lion’s share of possession and created a few chances for Arnold and Ashley up front. The chances that were being created didn’t really trouble Chris Pacey in goal; however, Wolverton’s defence knew they were in a game. Wanderers continued to probe, with Dean, Ashley and Oke going close on a couple of occasion. HT 0-1.

The lads were encouraged to maintain the tempo, get the ball down, more passing and get the ball in wide areas to stretch their defence. By doing so it would allow the midfield runners to have more shots on goal. On occasion, Ashley dropped deep so that Dean could run at the defence and if we could improve our play in the last third, we could have got back in the game. The game became a little niggly after some strange refereeing decision or more importantly, indecisions which left the players on both side somewhat perplexed. Midway through the half, strong tackles by both Midge and substitute Ade could have led to both players being sent off. New signing Aaron Wardle (17) came on to replace Dale; Ade replaced Matt as Wanderers went searching for the equaliser. From a Wanderers throw, the ball was headed on by Ashley towards his defence; the only misplaced control by Michael allowed Jermaine Cuffy to seize on the loose ball and smashed into the net from twenty yards with ten minutes to go. This effectively ended the contest. The lads can be proud of their effort, disappointed I know they are, they learnt a valuable lesson that will serve them in the future. The future is bright for these lads, they will get better if they continue to learn and develop. The average age of this team is only eighteen so they will get better. Man of the match, Michael Viard.

Berks & Bucks Junior Cup
MK Wanderers 3 Denbigh Sports 1

The Berks & Bucks Junior cup drew us against Denbigh Sports who we recently played in the league. Not taking anything for granted (football is a funny game), Wanderers set about this task giving our opposition the respect they deserve. With a back five of Karl, Dan, Michael, Midge and goal-keeper Kay, Wanderers looked solid and it would take a lively front line to trouble them. Gavin dropped into an unfamiliar role of the anchor man of a midfield three with Oke and Dean supporting the front line of Dale, Arnold and Tom. On paper this looked a very progressive line up, however, Denbigh was having none of it and caused Wanderers some scary moments. Wanderers had the lion’s share of possession but could not capitalise due to poor finishing, however Dean came up trumps one again to put Wanderers in the lead on 25 minutes. Denbigh hit back and a smart save from Kay kept the score at 1-0 at half time.

Wanderers came out for the second half with much more purpose and started to knock the ball around with a bit more composure. Denbigh a tidy footballing side chipped away and secured successive corners early in the half putting Wanderers under severe pressure. The game was played with Wanderers mounting a number of attacks which either they gave the ball away or was getting caught off-side and Denbigh counter attacking. Tom was replaced by JT midway through the half and was guilty of not clearing his lines from a corner that led to Denbigh’s equaliser. This gave Denbigh hope which opened the game up, Dale was moved to the left with JT on the right. JT soon found his range and a smart run down the right resulted in his cross being headed in from close range by Dale. The match was sealed with Dean’s second goal practically on the final whistle. This was an average performance from the lads of which they will be looking to improve on next week when they are back to the league program.

Heath Utd Res 0 MK Wanderers 6

Wanderers maintained their unbeaten run with their fourth straight win on the bounce.
Maintaining the same back four of the previous week, Gavin, Dan, Michael and Midge, Ade Ogunussi came into the side to make a three man midfield and welcome back to Ashley Bench occupying one of the attacking position. A pretty even game with Wanderers playing the more attractive football, but they didn’t really dominate the game as they should of. On 25 minutes a ball was played through by Oke to Arnold who outpaced the defence only to be pulled down by the keeper. The referee showed the red card to the keeper thus reducing them down to ten men. From the resulting spot kick, Wanderers were a goal to the good thanks to Dean Dummett. The ten men of Heath showed real resilience but Wanderers were beginning to take charge. Five minutes later, some good midfield play released Dean for his second goal. HT 0-2

The second half started pretty much where the first half finished. Wanderers were playing some good football at times but were guilty of giving away possession in key areas of the pitch. Ade was replaced when Gavin moved into midfield and Karl Bench dropped in a right full back. This was a historic moment with both Karl and Ashley Bench playing in the same team for the first time in a competitive game. On 65 minutes the contest was effectively ended when Dean completed his hat trick. Heath to their credit had given a good account of themselves but a younger fitter Wanderers side was too much for them. Tom Blunt (16 years) replaced Gavin and was immediately in the thick of the action, and within 5 minutes of coming on scored on his debut. Leighton replaced Arnold with 20 minutes to go and a superb pass from midfield put him through only for him to be brought down inside the area for another penalty. The penalty was spectacularly missed by Oke, he won’t be taken penalties in the future. Wanderers continued to dominate and two further goals from Leighton and Karl sealed the victory for the happy Wanderers.

Wing Village Res 0 MK Wanderers 4

With three straight wins on the bounce, Wanderers travelled to Wing determined to keep the sequence going. In the first ten minutes of the game Wing made their intentions clear by getting the goalkeeper to use his kicks to get beyond the Wanderers back line. In the early stages it caused Wanderers some problems with Kay in goal not talking to the defenders, with this indecision could have cause an embarrassing situation by gifting a goal to the home side. Slowly Wanderers got to grips with the game and once again Oke and Dean began to win the midfield battle, Oke again was in great form displaying a ray of ball skills only seen on the beaches of Brazil and Dean’s shear determination in running at the back four causing Wing no end of problems. The game was pretty even with Wing’s defence expertly marshalled by skipper Martin Clements; however, Wanderers edged it by the quality of football they played. Martin Clements left the field of play due to an injury caused when Festus chased a loose pass and his tackle caught him just above his shin pads, he was replaced by Shaun Folly who continued to drive the team on. With five minutes to half time a superb move involving Midge, Daumantas and Arnold allowed Festus to score from close range. HT 0-1

In the second half the coaching staff wanted more movement from the front two of Festus and Arnold. This worked a treat when a ball was played out wide to Dale who in-turn played a pass to Dean. Dean continued his run into box and after shaking off a couple of challenges rounded the keeper and made it two on 55minutes.
Wanderers continued to dominate the game and on a not so even surface continued to play some great football. Further goals by Dean and Festus sealed another fine victory for this fast improving young side that can only get better. One sad note on the day, Daumantas is leaving the team to go to Southampton university to study international relations, we wish him well and hopes that he will come back to see us on holidays. MOM Dean Dummett. The lads take on Heath Utd reserves on Saturday hoping to continue their unbeaten run.

Kingfisher Titans Res 1 MK Wanderers 2

With a depleted squad of just twelve players including 3 new signings, Wanderers faced a lively Kingfisher Titans side at Willen Road, Newport Pagnell. Wanderers started well playing some good football with Oke and Dean dominating the midfield, helped by Dale on the right flank and Daumantas on the left. The back four of Gavin at right back, Dan Allen and Karl Bench (new signing) in the middle and Michael at left back looked pretty solid denying the Titans front line. An early injury to the Titans Neil Goodman who sustained mild concussion after a clash of heads with Karl left him seeing doubles for the rest of the half. Kay in goal was in superb form making some great saves to keep the score 0-0. A pretty even game with both teams carving out some good chances but was unable to find the net. Arnold was asked to play in an unfamiliar role of centre forward ably helped by another new signing Sean Dunne playing off him. On the 38th minute a great move by Wanderers down the right hand side saw a the ball played into the centre for Arnold to get in front of his marker the nod in the first goal. For the next seven minutes, Titans piled on the pressure looking for an equaliser only for Kay to pull off a fantastic save from Titans Matt Fincher, Half Time 1-0.

The second half started with Titans taking the game to Wanderers and was soon dominating the midfield. However, Oke was having another great game but sometimes was guilty of giving the ball away in key areas of the park. Dean continued to probe with his surging runs and finding either Dale or Daumantas. One his passes let Daumantas in and his shot was superbly saved by Karl Clamp in goal. Titans equaliser was bizarre to say the lease, an up and under from Stuart Fennymore totally caught Kay of his guard and he was beaten by bounce of the ball, a fortuitous bit of luck which brought Titans level. Sean was replaced by Barrie Neale (another new signing) for the last fifteen minutes. As the game ebbed and flowed, Wanderers secured the three points with the last kick of the game when Arnold stabbed in the winner. Wanderers go to Wing next Saturday seeking to extend their unbeaten run. MOM Oke Odunayo.

MK Wanderers 3 Yardley Gobion Res 0

With the continued policy of drafting in the youth, Wanderers started this contest with six under seventeen’s; a couple of nineteen year olds and the oldest player just twenty six by getting about Yardley in the early minutes. However, Yardley sent an early warning when a speculative shot hit the post rolled along the line and hit the other post before the keeper cleared his lines.
Wanderers soon settled down playing some good football with Dean and Oke getting control of the midfield with good support from both Dale on the right and Daumantas on the left. Wanderers took the lead on twenty minutes with a fine strike by Dean, his third goal in five games. The back four of Michael, Dan Allen, Dan O’Farrell and Midge was able to deal with any threat from Yardley; Kay in goal was merely a spectator. On 30 minutes, a great ball was played out to Midge on the left; he carried on his run only to be upended in the box. Festus stepped up to covert the spot kick taking his total to three in five games. HT 2-0.

The second half started pretty much where Wanderers left off playing some good football, Oke was in great form in the middle of the park and the front two of Festus and Leighton worked hard closing down defenders allowing the Wanderers to maintain pressure on the overworked Yardley defence. A couple of times during the first twenty minutes, Festus and Leighton had chances to put the game beyond doubt only for their finishing letting them down. Wanderers continued to pressure Yardley and Dean scored his second goal of the game after he miss hit his first shot with his weaker foot then buried his second attempt giving the keeper no chance. A double substitution was made with Oke and Leighton being replaced by Arnold and Gavin. Gavin dropped at a full back, with Michael moving into midfield and Arnold going up front. With better finishing, Wanderers could have scored more goals, however, this young side can feel good about their performance and no doubt, the coaching staff will be looking at improving certain aspects of their game. The lads travel to Kingfisher Titans Reserve next week where they will face a stiffer test.

Linslade 2 MK Wanderers 1

Wanderers travelled to Leighton Buzzard to face newly promoted Linslade and found the new guys resilient and solid in defence, dogged in midfield and nippy up front.

With Arnold, Dean and Oke in midfield and Dale and Daumantas in wide position positions, Wanderers found it difficult to get control of the game. Too many times they were second best particularly when Arnold failed to get control in the central area. The back four of Michael, Dan, Gavin and Midge lacked cohesion and when Gavin failed to clear his lines, Linslade nipped in to score from what looked like off side after six minutes to take the lead. Wanderers toiled and laboured for the next 39 minutes creating a couple of half chances. Festus looked lively but didn’t really trouble their defenders as the midfield failed to support him. With 5 minute to go before half time, Wanderers put together their best move of the half. The ball was eventually played out to Daumantas on the edge of the area; his fine shot was parried by the keeper and landed in the back of the net. HT 1-1

Linslade started the second half with more purpose and soon put the Wanderers under pressure, however, Kay in the Wanderers goal didn’t really have a shot to save. Wanderers had the lion’s share of the second half, and with a little bit of luck and good finishing, should have walked away with all three points. Linslade’s goaI led a charmed life and the keeper pulled off some great save from Festus who should have had bagged 5, better luck next time. With 15 minutes to go, Linslade was awarded a throw-in deep in their half, the ball was played up field, caught the defence in disarray and the Linslade forward lobbed the keeper 2-1. Wanderers pushed forward in search of an equaliser but the keeper was having none of it. Wanderers still have a lot to do, they must learn to keep the ball and not give away position easily. Our next game is Yardley Gobion at Kents Hill.

MK Wanderers 9 Denbigh Sports & Social Club 1

With having to forfeit the last league game due to players not being available, on holidays and injuries, Wanderers had a full complement of players for this fixture.

The game started with Wanderers taking the game to Denbigh who started with only 10 ten men and within six minutes was 1-0 up with a goal from Dean Dummett. Denbigh played well given they were a man short but a sharper fitter Wanderers side never really looked in any danger and with 10 ten minutes gone was 2-0 up with a goal from Dale Love. Denbigh now had a full team on the pitch and troubled Wanderers particularly in the midfield causing the home side to miss place their passes. With twenty minutes gone, a ball was played down the middle to Mark Gidman who took the ball into the penalty area. As he was forced wide, he clipped the ball over the defender’s head who was adjudged to have handled the ball; the ref had no hesitation in awarding a penalty and Mark slotted his shot pass the keepers to his left, 2-1. Wanderers kept their composure and on half hour Mattie Boad made it 3-1. Further goals were added before half time by Dale Love and Dean getting his second. HT -5-1

In the second half it was clear that the manager had asked for more discipline in their play, improve the passing and keep the pressure on Denbigh. The three midfield players of Dean, Arnold and Matt controlled the play allowing the back four of Gavin, Dan Allen, Dan O’Farrell and Midge to have a fairly comfortable game. However, there were a few lapses of concentration which a better team would not have made it so comfortable. Dean was replaced in the second half by Oke Odunayo and with his first touch, bent his shot into the corner of net, 6-1. Dale was replaced with 20 minutes to go by Daumantas Azarinskas and within a minute of coming on riffled a shot in the top corner to make it 7-1. Arnold was replaced by Ade, who slotted into the back four with Dan O’Farrell moving into the central midfield role for the last 15 minutes. Festus and Oke added their second goals to complete the scoring. A satisfying home start to the season, let’s see if we can maintain this form for the season.

Rangers XI FC 1 MK Wanderers 0

With a number of new signings and getting to the game fifteen minutes before kick off, Wanderers found it difficult to get into the rhythm of the game. Wanderers continued their policy of bringing in a number of players from their talented U16’s squad from last season, and with a couple of new faces, the team lacked cohesion for the first half hour of the game. Rangers played some good football; however, both teams were guilty of given the ball away needlessly particularly when in good position. The back four of Michael, Gavin, Dan and Midge looked pretty secure albeit some scary moments when they failed to clear their lines. The midfield three of Oke, Arnold and Matt, struggled to get hold of the midfield and so isolated the wide men, Dale and Barry. Jim up front found it hard trying to pick up the pieces and on a number of occasions his touch let him down. Wanderers have their keeper Kay to thank for he pulled some great save to keep them in it, HT 0-0.

Wanderers changed to a more traditional 4-4-2 for the second half and began to trouble the home team back line. The feature of the game for both sides was their inability to keep the ball for more than a couple of passes and getting it down. Passes were being over hit or in the air and never really fining their target. Jim was replaced with new signing Daumantas coming on the left side of midfield with Barry pushed forward. Within five minutes of coming Dumantas could have made a name for himself on his debut, but his close range shot hit the keeper and bounced out to safety. Both teams huffed and puffed and spurned chances, Kay in the Wanderers goal made more superb saves. With Gavin being replaced by Dene, the game looked like it would end in stalemate. With 10 minutes to go a ball was played out wide left, the Rangers forward skipped round our fullback and crossed where the centre forward’s half hit shot beat the keeper came off the post and in the net. Wanderers surged forward in search of a last minute equaliser which was not to be.
