| Match Report |
Saturday 5t March 2010 Stoke Hammond Res 4 -4 MK Wanderers Wanderers started the game brightly, pressuring the home team from the off. New signing Michael Mckenzie partnered upfront with Ware pressured the back four, the midfield supporting the front two. Wanderers got into the lead from a good cross from the left which found unmarked McKenzie to head home for an easy first goal 0-1. It was all Wanderers in the opening stages but Hammond got back into the game against the run of play and a nice move cut the defence apart and the striker turned well on to the ball to fire home in the bottom corner 1-1. Wanderers had lost focus at this point and straight from the re-start indecision by the midfield and centre half allowed the Hammonds big number 9 to power through and take the ball off the defence to put them in the lead. 2-1. A terrible few seconds for Wanderers who had totally switched off. Hammond were first to every ball from then on and were on top, however Wanderers were still creating chances and always looked like they could score but as has been the problem since Christmas we do look vulnerable to concede too. The equaliser came though a good move down the left and the ball was crossed into the back post; Ware was first to it to tap in 2-2. Hammond went into half time in the lead a harsh free kick given against Wanderers was given and from the resulting free kick K. Flower saved well however the ball was followed up by their striker to smash in from close range to give the home team a 3-2 lead right on half time. The message was clear at half time: we had to get stuck in more and win more first and 2nd balls and tighten up at the back, too many times the ball was played over the top of the back 4 and chances created against us. Wanderers got off to a good start, dominating the 2nd half winning every ball and looking much tighter at the back. Scott Poulter replaced Nichols early in the 2nd half in centre midfield and started to win the ball well and dominate alongside Dean. Mckenzie got his 2nd of the game, showing good strength to hold off his defender and turn on the ball and drive in the box to smash home to bring the away team back on level terms 3-3. Countless chances went begging from now on, including disallowed goals and clearances off the line. Wanderers took the lead, again a cross from the left found Hamper totally unmarked to flick the ball home from close range. 3-4. Wanderers should have seen the game out and if maybe we did take our chances that followed we would have took all 3 points comfortably however just like last 3-4 games we switched off again however there was a great deal of luck involved in their 4th goal. Wanderers failed to clear their lines from a corner and the ball bounced to a Hammond player on the edge of the box whereby the shot took a heavy deflection to lob over K. Flower in goal to make it 4-4. Full time 4-4. A 3rd draw in 4 games in the league since Christmas and more dropped points. A lot of work needs to be done now if we are to be promoted but with a tough league cup Q/F next week against Deanshanger looming we need to remain positive and all pull together for this game to get the result.
