Sunday 21st September 2008 Stanford in the Vale 3 v MK Wanderers Ladies 2nd XI 2 Thames Valley County Women’s League Division 3
MK Wanderers Ladies 2nd XI travelled to Stanford in the Vale on Sunday, keen to build on last week’s victory. On a hot day and with only 11 players, the girls put in a battling display, but eventually lost out 3-2. With several changes having been made to the line-up, it took MK time to adjust and they started slowly. They eventually got their game going on the half hour mark and within a few minutes had taken the lead, Robyn Haughian getting the final MK touch before a mix up between the opposition goalkeeper and defender saw the ball roll over the line. Stanford hit back almost straight away to level the game and were in front themselves by half time. Wanderers came out in the second half with more belief and showed more composure on the ball, putting pressure on the Stanford goal almost immediately. However it was Stanford who would score next to extend their lead. MK got a deserved second goal 10 minutes from time, Haughian again on target. They continued to pressure the opposition and were maybe unlucky not to take something from the game in the end, but it is another lesson learnt for MK as we look to build this season. Laura Geyton was voted ‘player of the match’ by the opposition with Aquira Bailey-Browne receiving the same award from her own teammates.
Team: Laura Geyton, Claire Seckington, Chelsea Jobling, Laura Donegan, Aileen Macfarlane, Vicky McVeigh, Aquira Bailey-Browne, Robyn Haughian (2), Yasmin Woodford, Kayley Kilkenny, Demi-Louise Marshall. |
Sunday 14th September 2008 MK Wanderers Ladies 2nd XI 3 v Ducklington Ladies FC 0 Thames Valley County Women’s League Division 3
MK Wanderers Ladies 2nd XI took on Ducklington Ladies in their first home game of the season on Sunday and recorded an impressive 3-0 victory. Buoyed on by their performance last week, the girls showed great belief and enthusiasm for the game and it showed in their play, as they were better than their opposition in every position on the pitch. Wanderers started positively, playing some attractive football and had the Ducklington goal under pressure for the whole 90 minutes. They deservedly took the lead on the half hour mark, Laura Geyton prodding home from close range to establish a lead at half time. The second half saw much of the same with MK creating numerous chances for themselves. Michelle Peel doubled their lead with a fine shot into the far corner following good pressure on the keeper. Geyton notched the third for Wanderers 10 minutes from time, latching on to a Chelsea Jobling through ball to place the ball low in the corner and seal a deserved victory. Aquira Bailey-Browne was voted 'player of the match' by the opposition, with Robyn Haughian, Peel and Geyton jointly receiving the same award from their own team-mates. Thanks must go the supporters who turned out to watch us on Sunday-your support is much appreciated!!

Sunday 7th September 2008 South Reading Vixens 6 v MK Wanderers Ladies 2nd XI 5 Thames Valley County Women’s League Division 3
MK Wanderers Ladies 2nd XI kicked off their new season with a trip to Reading to take on South Reading Vixens. With a few changes having been made within the Wanderers set-up, the girls approached the game with renewed belief and passion and maintained a positive frame of mind for the entire game. The game was very much end to end with both sides looking to go forward and create chances. The Reading side shot into a two goal lead early on before Wanderers got back into it with a goal of their own straight from a Laura Geyton free kick. By half time, Reading had restored their two-goal cushion at 3-1. Wanderers continued to pressure the opposition in the second half, playing some good football and looking much more relaxed on the ball and were rewarded with a goal just 5 minutes after the restart, Geyton again finishing from a tight angle. Kayley Kilkenny netted her first goal of the season, firing into the roof of the net following great control in the box, Michelle Peel also got on the score sheet with a fine shot from the edge of the box, before Geyton completed her hat-trick in the final minute. However, it was not quite enough on the day as Reading ran out 6-5 winners, but MK took a lot of positives from this game and remain upbeat about the forthcoming season. Vicky McVeigh was voted player of the match by both her teammates and the opposition for her tireless work down the left wing.
Squad: Kat Bullock, Robyn Haughian, Chelsea Jobling, Laura Donegan, Aileen Macfarlane, Yazmin Woodford, Demi-Louise Marshall, Michelle Peel (1), Vicky McVeigh, Kayley Kilkenny (1), Laura Geyton (3). |
