Sunday 17th February MK Wanderers Ladies 1st XI 1 v Burnham 1 Southern Region League Division 1
MK Wanderers Ladies 1st XI earned a hard-fought point against league opponents Burnham at the weekend. With Burnham just one place behind MK in the league it was always likely to be a tight game and so it proved, in what was a game of two halves. Wanderers took their time to settle and find any real rhythm in the first half, but their defence remained strong and coped competently with the few Burnham attacks. However it was Burnham who made the breakthrough on the half hour mark, a loose ball in the six yard box eventually fell to the Burnham attacker who bundled the ball across the line. MK came out a different side in the second half, passing the ball around and creating chances for themselves. The more MK came into the game, the more Burnham struggled with their play and on several occasions were forced into last ditch tackles to deny the MK forwards. Wanderers finally got the goal their play deserved midway through the half, Laura Geyton scoring direct from a corner to level the scores at 1-1. MK continued to push hard for a winner, pegging Burnham back in their half for the remainder of the game, but it wasn't meant to be and MK had to be content with a point. Right back Aimee Barrable won the votes from her teammates for player of the match. MK Wanderers Ladies 1st XI look to maintain their push for promotion as they travel to Havant and Waterlooville next weekend for another tough top of the table clash.'
Team: Rachael Taylor (GK), Aimee Barrable, Kelly Wing, Lynsey Patmore, Emily Draper, Isata Kamara, Kim Horne, Kat Higby, Natalie Robinson, Morag Thomas, Laura Geyton (1). |
