V's Deanshanger Colts

The score itself might seem as if we won fairly easy, but far from it. The old saying, it’s a game of two half’s was so true in this game. From the first whistle you could see that both teams were up for this cup game.

First Half

Deanshanger I would say had at least 60% of the play in this half, they fought for every ball and came out on top in regards to retaining the ball. On several occasions they carved open our defence with their passing moves and movement off the ball. But our defence didn’t give up and battled for everything and with our midfield helping out at the back also, limiting their shots on target. Jose and Lewis both put in quite a few last ditch tackles to stop their shots. The shots they did get on target, Lewis our keeper seemed to cope well, and was quite busy in the first 15/20 mins. We did have a few chances on the quick break but like Deanshanger the boys seemed to misjudge there shots which either went wide or trickled through to their keeper, but it was literally end to end footie. Deanshanger might count themselves a little unlucky not to be ahead in the first half. In saying that we could say the same, 20 mins into the game and we had a corner, just before we took the corner I subbed Alex and on went Clarky. Lewis took the corner and as he did clarky moved from the back post to the centre of goal just inside their box, (not the 18 yard box but you know where I mean lol) and as the ball broke to him with a first time shot rattled it off the cross bar. So 0-0 in the first half.

Second Half

The word is transformation, that’s the only way to describe the second half performance of the Hawks. It was a total role reversal; the hawks came out battling and pressured the colts players on the ball giving them no time to play there passing game. In fact it was the hawk’s time to shine with their passing moves limiting the colts to quick breaks. 5 mins in to the second half the colts had an attack which our defence broke up, Lewis M broke out of defence on the right, played the ball to Taylan who turned his marker and carried the ball up the wing. This was what Richard and I work so hard at getting across to the boys, how much easier it is to pass the ball around the opposition rather than try to go through them. Clarky made a run also on the right trying to make space, Taylan passed the ball to clarky and ran to the edge of their area, ‘’clarky’’ under pressure squared the ball back to Taylan, who controlled it with his left and then fired hard and low into the back of the net, good move and good goal. Now that’s what I call team work.
Our second goal came after about 11 mins. We were on the attack and in their area, Alex shot for goal which came off their player for a corner. Jose delivered a high ball into their goal mouth, which one of their defenders headed it straight up into the air back to the right corner. One of their players tried to clear it, but put it back straight up into the air again. In stepped Alex who volleyed it over his head with his back to goal, the keeper tried to parry the ball over the cross bar but it went in. So second goal was Alex it was a very tight angle and who’s to say it wasn’t meant.

Our last goal came from the back again, Jamil won the ball on the left and passed it through to Ollie who turned and put a quick pass to Taylan across the other side on the right, Sean had made a run through the centre and was shouting to taylan, who looked up and made the pass to Sean, Sean picked up the ball and burst into the area and shot for goal to which the keeper saved but the rebound fell just in front of him, and because Sean followed up his shot, he was first to the rebound and slotted it into the bottom left corner of the goal. Great move again.
Deanshanger got a goal with about 2 mins to go from there number 11 on the edge of our area with a sweet right foot shot, another good goal.

Can I say thanks to Deanshanger Colts for a very entertaining and well fought game, in my eyes that could have gone either way? The first goal was critical whoever scored, as the other team would have to push up. Great game Colts and very fairly played.

Last but not least can I say a big thanks to two of our team, who could not play today? One with a broken arm and the other who is cup tied. But that did not stop them from coming down to support their team mates today. Kyran and Sam.
