MK Wanderers v Samba Rio

On a grey and cold day at Kents Hill, the MK Wanderers U8 squad welcomed Samba Rio for a friendly game of football. The home side were put through their usual warm up drills with Paul and Mike, before the whistle blew to signal the start of the game.

11.15am: kick off (1st 10 mins of play) and starting 6 = Matt, Bertie, Brandon, Joshua, Sam and Shaun It was a very even 1st 10 mins of play, which saw plenty of good tackling, good attempts at goal and some good saves made from both sides. Both teams continually tried to pressure the opposing team, however neither side were able to break to take the lead advantage.

2nd 10 mins of play Changes to the home side saw Brandon, Sam and Shaun leave the field with Adam, Harry and Tre joining the game. The game re-started very positively with Adam just unlucky to not hit the back of the net, to give the home side the lead advantage they set out to gain. With Bertie making some good defensive tackles and some good pressing work between Adam, Harry and Tre, the opposition found it hard to break through. The home side were just unlucky to not have taken the lead, when a corner ball hit the goal post and ended up it the hand of the opposition goal keeper. Just before the whistle blew, the opposition were able to take advantage and took the early lead.

3rd 10 mins of play Changes again to the home side saw Harry, Joshua and Tre leave the field with Brandon, Sam and Shaun re-joining. The game re-started with the home side gaining immediate possession and Brandon was just unlucky to see his shot wide of the opposition goal post. The home side continually pressed to find the equaliser of the game and soon their efforts were rewarded. A great bit of team play saw Adam pass the ball up field to Sam, Sam kept the ball under control and was able to make a pass to Brandon, who had got himself into some space in the opposition area. Brandon was then able to turn with the ball, shoot at goal and see the ball hit the back of the net – excellent team work from the home side. Unfortunately the opposition were able to find the back of the home sides net once again, to take the lead advantage going into the last 10mins of match play.

4th 10 mins of play Final changes of the match saw Brandon, Sam and Shaun leave the field with Harry, Joshua and Tre re-joining once again. The opposition started well and were able to score once again, giving them a 2 goal advantage. The home side continued to work hard and once again, it paid off. A good pass from Adam to Harry, saw the home side hit the back of the net for the second time in the match. The home side were just unlucky on the final whistle to not have eqaualised the game, when Adam saw his shot at goal just creep past the post. All in all a great game of football from both sides.

The final score: MK Wanderers 2 Samba Rio 3
