| U8 Kestrels Season 2009-10 |
Saturday 6th February. U8 Kestrels 6 Vs Deanshanger Colts Stallions 6
Well this was our first league game of this year and what a game .
We started very slow and within the first 8 min we had gone 4-0 down with a couple of nice goals from deanshanger and a couple of mistakes from us gifting them the other couple of goals.
So after the first quarter we were a bit down but I told the boys to get there heads up and start enjoying it and to be fair they had created a couple of chances and just said lets get back out there and try are hardest.
And then the come back off all come backs began........
the second quarter we come out a lot stronger and the boys were giving it there all and finally we scored through ben who beat there defense with a great run and finish, which was then followed a couple of min later by another good strike from ben out side the box which was sent flying in to the net. great goal and score now 4 – 2 and the boys were buzzing with good challenges and some good passing and moving. And a couple of chances just going wide or there keeper pulling of good saves. Just as the quarter finished deanshanger got a goal to make it 5-2 half time.
We changed half's and started this half like we finished the first ,strong and creative with plenty of chances .we were rewarded for our effort a couple of min in to the quarter with lewis Andrews getting his first of the game. Which was then followed by a wonder goal from him right out on the wing, he had a shoot that went over everyone including the keeper and in to the top corner . Score now 5-4. and we are creating chance after chance with loads of possession and the boys making excellent challenges , passes, and runs. Then just as we finished the quarter ben scored again to make it 5 -5 and a hatrick for himself.
We come out the last quarter strong again and a couple of min in lewis Andrews got his hatrick with a great strike and we are now 6-5 up .
Just as the game ended we gave a way a couple of free kicks with the second one just outside the box which the taker took very well with loads of pace on the ball which took a deflection and went in 6-6 and the game finished .
Today we introduced man of the match for the first time and what a hard choice it was because they all played so well and done enough to be rewarded with the award, All the players keeping there positions and playing as a team Making good challenges and passes it was a very hard decision but in the end I gave it to jack as he was played in three different positions today and done everything that was asked of him with good challenges plenty of running and effort and creating chances for the team while getting back and defending. he showed what a team player he is today. Also well done to lewis Andrew and ben on getting a hatrick each.
Our captain today was lewis keating who seemed to enjoy the role and stood up to the challenge.
To come from 4-0 down and draw 6-6 shows just how hard they worked today . And they should all be very proud of themselves.
Well done Kestrels! |
Saturday 7th November 2009 vs Preston gowcott result 0-0
we started this game very well with some very strong defending and some good movement going forward. With some excellent challenges from Adam and lewis Andrews stopping the other team causing us to much trouble . I would say the first quarter was very even .
We come out the second quarter really well we had the ball for most of the time and really attacked them with ben hitting the post twice and we could have had a penalty for blatant hand ball in the area , but is wasn't to be. Another good chance come from an excellent through ball from lewis keating who again today showed great attitude and some nice footwork on the ball getting in some nice chances.
3rd quarter was the same with the boys really pushing forward and how we didn't get the goal we deserved I'll never know especially when ben was fouled in the box with a blatant push to his face sending him to the ground. Not only was it a penalty any other age group over u 10s or even senior football would have been a sending off. But it just wasn't ment to be.
Forth quarter was pretty even with preston gowcott having the best chance . One on one with the keeper .but to be fair what a save to stop them scoring from our keeper who also played very well on pitch today with great speed and tackling, kortani.
Again we used four different keepers today and tried to change the boys about in positions .
The best thing about this match today even thought it's a non competitive league was we got the result we deserved if anything i was a bit disappointing not to win.
As with previous results we have not deserved to lose but have! but we are a new team and are getting better and stronger every week and really settling as a team now.
The boys attitude and football was brilliant today and I come away from the match a very happy manager.
Well done boys! |
Saturday 26th September 2009 U8K vs Leeland Rangers (L) 2-5
We started the game very well today with the boys taking control from the start going forward well and defending well.
We started with Lewis Andrews and Jack at the back today and between them I think they done really well and are showing some real ability with this roll . They got the ball forward well, also winning some important challenges early, which was really positive as we spoke to them about when defending how to position yourself and shutting down attacks early.
The boys were trained and spoke to about moving forward and clearing danger areas and looking for space. For example when we have the ball do we want a defender calling for a pass which may put us under pressure and stop us going forward . Today they done this well with forward movement from the back and players asking and calling for the ball when in space or going forward.
We had some great running and passing from Ben today who set up two goals which Andreas finished very well with great movement and positioning for both goals .
Again we went with complete rotation of the team after the first ten minutes getting the boys used to different positions. And again rotated the goal keepers for all 4 quarters. With all of them doing really well in goal even though a couple of them didn't fancy doing it.
The effort today from the boys was great and the work rate was 100% with all of them really trying for the team .
I think there learning and bonding together very well which is very important for a new team, and some aspects of training they are really taking in and bring to matches which is great. .
The team is new and has mixed ability's and I feel we have had a good start with training going well and I see improvements at different rates in all the players and feel very positive about the boys progressing as individuals and as a team.
Another good day of football . Well done boys. |
Saturday 12th September 2009 U8 Kestrels 1 vs Deanshanger colts stallions 3
First game of the season and everyone was excited.
Deanshanger come at us right from the start creating some good chance's. For most of the boys it was there first every game of football and while they got settled and adjusted to the game they showed great shape and movement which was a very good sign, as it shows what there being taught in training they can bring to a match situation after the first ten min the team looked more settled and confident with good challenges from Leigh and jack stopping attacks from deanshanger and getting our team moving forward.
Positioning today from the boys was very good considering they all got moved about a lot and it was there first game. they understood what was asked of them from there coach. On and off the ball the two lewis's were maintaining there positions all game and passing and winning the ball well.
Ben had some really nice runs today with the ball getting out wide getting past people and creating chances which was rewarded with a good goal, while getting back to defend when required.
Andreas showed some nice footwork today on the ball and was creative going forward and again like the other boys when asked to play a position he showed great ability and understanding. Tylor won some important balls in this game and showed a very good understanding of positioning and used his strength well holding off players and winning the ball and got forward and into space creating a very good chance for himself to score .
We used 4 different goal keepers today and all four showed good attitude towards doing it, and some understanding for the position with Adam making some excellent saves . And he also showed some great ability when on pitch.
All in all the boys really seemed to enjoy it and worked hard as a team, and showed excellent attitude towards the game, the other team, and each other .
Well done lads, also would like to say thank you to the parents today with helping to get the boys ready for the match and getting there on time, helping with the pitch inspection and helping with the goals to be put up/down. The positive comments and encouragement from the side line while the game was on was excellent allowing the coach to do his job, I'm sure the boys appreciated it as much as Paul and myself did. |
