Saturday 20th November 2010 MK Wanderers v Samba Rio
On a grey and cold day at Kents Hill, the MK Wanderers U8 squad welcomed Samba Rio for a friendly game of football. The home side were put through their usual warm up drills with Paul and Mike, before the whistle blew to signal the start of the game.
11.15am: kick off (1st 10 mins of play) and starting 6 = Matt, Bertie, Brandon, Joshua, Sam and Shaun It was a very even 1st 10 mins of play, which saw plenty of good tackling, good attempts at goal and some good saves made from both sides. Both teams continually tried to pressure the opposing team,however neither side were able to break to take the lead advantage.
2nd 10 mins of play Changes to the home side saw Brandon, Sam and Shaun leave the field with Adam, Harry and Tre joining the game. The game re-started very positively with Adam just unlucky to not hit the back of the net, to give the home side the lead advantage they set out to gain. With Bertie making some good defensive tackles and some good pressing work between Adam, Harry and Tre, the opposition found it hard to break through. The home side were just unlucky to not have taken the lead, when a corner ball hit the goal post and ended up it the hand of the opposition goal keeper. Just before the whistle blew, the opposition were able to take advantage and took the early lead.
3rd 10 mins of play Changes again to the home side saw Harry, Joshua and Tre leave the field with Brandon, Sam and Shaun re-joining. The game re-started with the home side gaining immediate possession and Brandon was just unlucky to see his shot wide of the opposition goal post. The home side continually pressed to find the equaliser of the game and soon their efforts were rewarded. A great bit of team play saw Adam pass the ball up field to Sam, Sam kept the ball under control and was able to make a pass to Brandon, who had got himself into some space in the opposition area. Brandon was then able to turn with the ball, shoot at goal and see the ball hit the back of the net – excellent team work from the home side. Unfortunately the opposition were able to find the back of the home sides net once again, to take the lead advantage going into the last 10mins of match play.
4th 10 mins of play Final changes of the match saw Brandon, Sam and Shaun leave the field with Harry, Joshua and Tre re-joining once again. The opposition started well and were able to score once again, giving them a 2 goal advantage. The home side continued to work hard and once again, it paid off. A good pass from Adam to Harry, saw the home side hit the back of the net for the second time in the match. The home side were just unlucky on the final whistle to not have eqaualised the game, when Adam saw his shot at goal just creep past the post. All in all a great game of football from both sides.

Saturday 16th October 2010 MK Wanderers v Roman Rangers Yellows
On a chilly start to a Saturday morning, the MK Wanderers U8 squad welcomed the Roman Rangers yellows squad to Kents Hill. The boys were put through their usual “warm up” drills before the game commenced with Paul.
11.00am kick off (1st 10 mins of play) and starting 6 = Matt, Bertie, Adam, Sam, Joshua and Harry. The game started well with the boys demonstrating some good passing work and pressing the opposition, as much as they could. Both Joshua and Bertie made some excellent defensive tackles at crucial parts of the game, to ensure the home side did not concede. Just before the whistle was blown to indicate to 1st 10 mins of play was over, Sam made a good run up field however the opposition were able to make an excellent tackle, to ensure the home-side did not take the initial lead in the match. 2nd 10 mins of play Changes to the side saw Adam, Harry, Joshua and Sam leave the field with Brandon, Josh. T, Shaun and Taine enter the game. The game re-started positively for the home-side with Brandon making 2 good runs up field and just unlucky to not find the net on both occasions. The game saw 2 temporary stops in play due to player injuries, however all was well and the game continued after a few minutes. The home-side were unfortunate to loose a goal towards end of play, however with some excellent pass and saves from Matt the home-side continued to press the opposition and Shaun found himself in the opposition area and just unlucky to see his shot wide of goal. 3rd 10 mins of play Changes to the side saw Brandon, Josh. T, Shaun and Taine leave the field and Adam, Bertie, Joshua and Sam re-join. The opposition re-started very well and were soon rewarded with another goal. The home side continued to defend well, with Bertie and Joshua once again, pulling off crucial tackles in the game. Sam made some excellent runs up field throughout this section of match, with the opposition pulling off some good tackles to ensure the home-side did not find the back of their net. Again some excellent saves from Matt, ensured the home-side were still in the match. 4th 10 mins of play Final changes of the game saw Bertie, Harry, Joshua and Sam leave the field with Brandon, Josh. T, Shaun and Taine once again re-joing. The home-side came out with their heads help up high and started very well, with Brandon just unlucky with his shot at goal. Matt pulled off some superb saves and made some excellent passes up field. Unfortunately for the home-side, the opposition were able to break once more in the game however the boys continued to demonstrate good pressure and good team work, till the final whistle blew and Adam was just unlucky to not have scored at the end from a home-side free kick, which went just wide of the goal.

Saturday 9th October 2010 MK Wanderers v Roman Rangers Blues

9.30am kick off (1st 10 mins of play) and starting 6 = Matt, Adam, Brandon, Sam, Josh. T and Harry The game started with some excellent defensive tackles being made from Adam and Josh. T, as the opposition immediately pressed the home-side. Some good passing between Brandon and Sam pushed the home-side forward, however found themselves unlucky and not being able to find the back of the net. As the game progressed, some excellent saves from Matt ensured the home-side did not go a goal behind. Brandon was just unlucky to not have scored, when his shot at goal was saved on the goal-line by the keeper. Unfortunately, the opposition were able to break the home-side twice towards the end of the 1st 10 mins to lead 2-0.
2nd 10 mins of play Changes to the side saw Harry leave the field and Shaun joining the action. The game re-started with Sam making a good run up field and just unlucky at a shot at goal. Again some excellent saves from Matt, ensured the home-side did not concede any more goals. Both Adam and Josh. T did a great job in defence and made some crucial tackles of the game. Some good team work was demonstrated and towards the end of the 10 mins, the home-side were awarded a free kick just outside of the area. Adam placed the ball and took a shot at goal. Unfortunately, his shot went just wide of the goal post.
3rd 10 mins of play Changes made to the team saw Shaun leave the field and Harry re-join. The game re-started with Matt pulling off a great save, to keep the home-side in the game. Brandon was able to set Sam off on a run up field and again was just unlucky in the area, with the opposition defending well. The boys continually played their game well and Adam and Josh. T continued to make great defensive tackles. Unfortunately, the opposition broke the home-side early on, to increase their lead. Adam was twice unlucky at his shots at goal, with seeing them just wide of the goal. The opposition were again able break the home-side twice at the end of the 10 mins play, however the home-side kept their heads up and got on with business.
4th 10 mins of play Final changes to the match saw Harry leave the field and Shaun re-join. Although the boys came out 5-0 down, they continued to press and kept their heads up. Brandon stepped up to take a home-side corner and delivered the ball well into the area. Sam was just unlucky in picking up the ball, to see his shot at goal just wide. The home-side were finally rewarded, when some excellent pressure work in the oppositions area enabled Shaun to net the ball, for his 1st goal of the season. The boys maintained their spirit and kept pressing till the end of the game and even though the opposition was able to score again, the boys kept their heads up and never gave up – a real credit to themselves and their coaches! Saturday 25th September 2010 MK Wanderers v Brookfield Herons
On a sunny but cold day at Kents Hill, the U8 squad welcomed the Brookfield Herons for a friendly game of football. As usual the boys started their morning off by being put through their “warm up” drills with Paul, Mike and Aaron.
9.30am: kick off (1st 10 mins of play) and starting 6 = Matt, Bertie, Brandon, Adam, Sam and Harry As the game kicked off, it was evident that boys were working well together as a team. They demonstrated some good passing between each other and pressed the opposition team where and whenever they could. In the early stages Sam was just unlucky to not score from a good pass from Harry, as his shot went wide of the goal. With some great defensive tackles being made and some excellent saves from Matt, the home side continued their work rate to ensure the 1st 10 mins of play ended 0-0.
2nd 10 mins of play Some changed made saw Harry, Bertie and Sam off the field with Josh. T, Henry and Shaun coming on. The 2nd10 mins started lively for the opposition, which resulted in an early great save from Matt. This section of the match saw plenty of corner and throw in balls for both sides and they continued to press each other, whenever they could. The boys worked well together and Josh. T was just unlucky to not have put the home side in front, when his ball made it's way into the hand of the opposition goal keeper. Unfortunately, the opposition broke the home side and even through Brandon stood his ground in the area and made an excellent body block, the opposition scored their 1st goal to take the lead 0-1.
3rd 10 mins of play Changes again saw Josh. T, Henry and Shaun off the field with Sam, Harry and Bertie re-joining the match. The home side started this section of play like they meant business and were keen to equalise the game. Brandon made a good run up field but was just unlucky in delivering a ball into the area, due to an excellent tackle from the opposition. The boys were finally rewarded for all their hard work. They continued to press the opposition in their area and Harry was able to watch his shot at goal hit the back of the net, to make the game 1-1. Unfortunately it was not long before the opposition took the lead again to end this section of play 1-2.
4th 10 mins of play Final changes of the match saw Brandon, Harry and Sam off the field with Josh. T, Henry and Shaun re-joining. It was clear that both teams went into the last 10 mins not wanting to loose the match and both teams demonstrated some excellent play. Some excellent defensive tackles were being made and Matt pulled off some excellent saves, to ensure the home side were still in the game. Again, the home side were rewarded for all their hard efforts when the opposition handled the ball in the area, giving the boys their 1st penalty of the season. The ball was placed on the spot and Adam stood up to take the shot. The ball flew into the top right corner ending the match 2-2.

Saturday 11th September 2010 MK Wanderers v Water Eaton Blues On a grey, wet and windy Saturday morning, the MK Wanderers U8 squad had their 1st away match since returning from their summer break to the Water Eaton Blues U8 squad. The boys were put through their usual “warm up” routine with their coaches Paul and Mike, before the game kicked off.
9.45am: kick off (1st 10 mins of play) and starting 6 = Matt, Bertie, Brandon, Adam, Sam and Josh The boys started the game like they meant business. With an early corner kick from Adam, Brandon was able to pick up the ball and keep possession before having a shot at goal. He was just unlucky to have not put the boys in front, as he saw his shot hit the cross bar. The game then progressed with some great defence tackles from Bertie, great passing between the boys and some excellent saves from Matt. The hard work finally paid off with the boys having another corner and Brandon was able to find the target on this occasion: 1-0 to the MK Wanderers. The boys being on a high from scoring, continued to press the home team and some good passing work between Adam, Sam and Brandon led to another goal being scored by Brandon to take their lead to 2-0. The boys were not finished there. Again with some good team work being demonstrated, the boys were able to increase their lead to 3-0 just before the 1st 10 mins of play was over. Sam made a good run up field, took at shot at goal and was unlucky that it hit the post but was able to follow this up and put the ball in the net.
2nd 10 mins of play Changes made during their break saw Adam, Brandon, Josh, Sam off with Harry, Josh. T, Henry and Shaun take to the field. The game re-started with the home team pressing forward, which led to some excellent defence tackles from Bertie and Henry, with some excellent saves from Matt. As the home team continually tried to break, some excellent tackles were made by Josh. T and Harry to ensure they protected their 3-0 lead. After a great save from Matt from a home team corner, the game was stopped temporarily, however he was soon back on his feet and back in his goal. Bertie made a great run up field and was unlucky at goal, due to a great tackle from the opposition.
3rd 10 mins of play Again changes made saw Harry, Henry, Josh.T and Shaun off with Adam, Brandon, Josh and Sam taking to the filed. The game re-started well for the MK Wanderers with a good run up field by Sam, which led to corner kick and the home side making a a great save. Again their hard work paid off, which saw good team work demonstrated leading to the 4th goal being scored by Adam. The boys continually pressed the home side and Adam was just unlucky to have not scored his 2nd of the match, moments before the whistle blew.
4th 10 mins of play Final changes of the match were made which saw Bertie, Brandon,, Josh and Sam off and Harry, Henry, Josh. T and Shaun taking to the filed. Matt had to make an early save, from a home team corner. Some good passing between Shaun and Harry showed their determination to keep pressing forward on the ball and between them, they were just unlucky to have not scored another MK Wanderers goal. Some good defensive tackles were made to stop the opposition moving forward and the commitment from the boys remained, till the final whistle blew.

Saturday 4th September 2010 MK Wanderers U8's v Woburn Hurricane It is the weekend and it can only mean 1 thing – Saturday morning football. On a sunny start to the morning, the MK Wanderers U8 squad took to the field in a friendly against Woburn Hurricanes, at their home ground of Kents Hill. The boys started the morning by being put through their “warm up drills” with coaches Paul and Mike. With the warm up complete, boys were all rounded up for a team talk and discuss the game play ahead.
9.30am: kick off (1st 10 mins of play) and starting 6 = Matt, Bertie, Brandon, Adam, Sam and Josh The game kicked off and immediately the home team were pressing the opposition, with some good team work being demonstrated by the boys. The home team saw their 1st chance at goal, when a good defence pass from Bertie was made to Brandon, who then sent Sam up field who was just unlucky at goal. The boys continued to press with plenty of great tackles being made, plenty of passing opportunities and some fabulous saves from Matt, to ensure the home team did not go 1-0 down. The home team were finally rewarded with all their hard work, when some great team work between Adam, Brandon and Sam leading to the 1st goal of the match: 1-0 Wanderers and goal scored by Sam.
2nd 10 mins of play The home team made some changes and took Brandon, Sam, Adam and Josh off and brought on Shaun, Josh. T, Harry and Henry. The boys dug deep and some good defensive tackles saw off the opposition. Josh.T made a good run up field from a playing pass between Bertie and Harry and was just unlucky to not have scored for the home team. The boys then got caught out on a run from the opposition which saw Matt pulling off a great save, to keep the home team in the lead. Unfortunately, within the next few minutes of play, the oppositions scored to equalise the game at 1-1. Before the 10 mins were over, Harry had a shot of goal, however just unlucky that it fell short of the opposition goal.
3rd 10 mins of play Again changes made which saw Harry, Josh. T, Shaun and Henry off with Adam, Brandon, Josh and Sam back on field. The game re-started with a series of throw ins for the home team, which resulted in a run up field from Sam being just unlucky at goal. Matt pulled out some great saves and plenty of great passing was demonstrated between the boys.
4th 10 mins of play Home team changes again saw Adam, Brandon, Josh and Sam being taken off with Harry, Henry, Josh. T and Shaun taking to the field. The home side had a tough start, as they conceded 2 early goals, however they continued to dig deep. A shot at goal by Josh. T was just unlucky to fall short of the opposition goal. Matt continued to make some excellent saves, to keep the home side in the game. This section of the match saw a couple of injury stops, however not affecting the game. The final score MK Wanderers 1 MK City Colts 3 MAN OF THE MATCH = Matt
At the request of the opposition, an additional 10 mins was played: 5th 10 mins of play Not the normal setting for the boys to play a 5th 10 mins, however with Bertie off and Adam on, the boys kicked off and started positively with a run at goal by Shaun, who was just unlucky to have been beaten to the ball by the opposition goal keeper. Again, the home team were unlucky to concede 2 early goals, however their spirits remained high. Home team then made changes with Harry, Henry, Josh.T and Shaun off with Bertie, Brandon, Josh and Sam taking to the field. Brandon made a great run up field, however just unlucky due to excellent opposition tackle. The boys never gave up and in the final stages of the match, the home team were just unlucky to not have scored, when Brandon fired the ball at goal, which hit the goal post. |
Saturday 28th August 2010 MK Wanderers U8's v City Colts
After a long break from Saturday morning football, the MK Wanderers U8 squad played their very 1st friendly against MK City Colts on Saturday 28th August 2010 at their home ground at Kents Hill. After the boys had been through their “warm up” drills, the boys all gathered with their coaches, Paul and Mike to discuss their game play.
9.30am: kick off (1st 10 mins of play) and starting 6 = Matt, Bertie, Brandon, Adam, Sam and Josh The game started off well for the Wanderers boys with a good header/pass from Brandon to Sam, who made a run up field and was just unlucky to not have put the home team in front. The game then progressed with some great defence tackles from Bertie and some great saves from Matt. Unfortunately, just at the end of the 1st 10 mins of play, the opposition broke the home team and they went 1-0 up.
2nd 10 mins of play The home team made some changes and took Brandon, Sam and Adam off and brought on Shaun, Josh. T and Harry. Again, the boys dug deep and some excellent tackles saw off the opposition. Matt made some wonderful saves and also saved a shot on the Wanderers goal line. After a Wanderers throw in Josh. T was just unlucky to not have scored the equaliser, after his shot was just short of the opposition goal.
3rd 10 mins of play Again changes were made to the team with Josh, Shaun and Josh. T off with Brandon, Adam and Sam on. The game started very positive for the home team, with Brandon making a good run up field and his shot went just wide of the opposition goal. This was then followed with Sam making a great run up the entire field, only to see his shot at goal just unlucky to have not gone in. The match had a couple of “suspended” play incidents due to injuries, however this did not affect how both teams continued to play. Unfortunately the opposition broke the home team and another goal scored to take score 2-0.
4th 10 mins of play Final changes were made of the match with Harry and Adam off with Shaun, Josh. T and Josh on. The final session of play, saw the home never giving up the hope that they could score and some excellent saves were made by Matt, to see that the opposition did not extend their lead. The home team had a sting of corner kicks (5 in a row) and they all continued to push forward.
