2nd Round of the Shield
Woodside Wanderers 0 v MK Wanderers Kestrels 7

Seven and Magnificent

From the first whistle, this was a game the boys and gaffer wanted to win, the kestrels started off slowly and in the first 5 mins were having trouble to remember that they were playing in white, a quick reminder from the gaffer soon changed this, and on 6 mins a Connor through ball pass the defender found Dairan running into space and putting the ball past the Woodside keeper.

This one pass changed the way the boys played and they soon got into their attacking and passing football.

The counter attack comes, Jake intercepts and the ball is back in their half, Craig is again solid working the ball in the corner, and passing to Youseff who passes it to Dairan who takes a shot but with an alert Woodies goalie it goes into safe hands.

Jake recieves the ball from Dairan and took an almighty shot on goal only to put it over.

Matthew commanding well passes the ball to Diaran who slots it to Connor who finishes off with a top corner shot 0-2.

Jamie and Youseff are working together well with Jake as solid support but are not really tested until a long goal kick reaches a Woodies striker who takes it into the corner, Youseff tackles for a corner, the ball comes in only for Jason to shout and put it out for another corner, this time it falls for Jamie who clears the ball from the post.

Diaran takes the ball into goal with some superb footwork and shoots just wide, Matthew encourages the boys that we must play with your heads up, the lads are now finding space and the boys need to pass.

Jamie intercepts the ball but is slow to clear and is tackled, the forward runs down on the kestrels goal only to be met by Jason diving at his feet and making a very good save with his knee's

Coming upto half time and Jake passes to Connor who puts Dairan through who finishes superb and makes it 0-3 and half time.

Darren walks up, asks for more of the same, chuckles and walks away again, then gathers up the lads and parents in order to keep warm.

Second half and the woodies are well up for a game and there are some shots on goal but Jason is there to hold the ball.

With the woodies defence exposed a little the Kestrels took the early second half advantage,Kenzo working hard up on the left with a couple of shots and some very important tackles, one of these tackles see's Kenzo winning the ball before playing it to Craig, Craig receives the ball on the left steadies himself plays a lovely little pass up the wing for Dairan to control, he takes it past the defender and hit high into the roof of the net, hat trick for Dairan.

Some strong tackles are coming in from both sides as the Woodies are not giving up by any means and are still playing some very good football.

Youseff, now playing up front, receives the ball on the half way line, uses the pace of the ball to turn the defender and run onto goal to slide the ball past the keeper.

Craig and Matthew so solid working the wings, Connor now in defence gets his second of the game with a fine midfield run and makes it 0-6, still scores even from defence.

Jamie is up front working with Dairan and finding it easy to get into space but Diaran working the ball in shoots wide.

A pass from Craig reaches Dairan and he crosses it into the box, the Woodies goalie gets a hand on it but Jamie is there to tap in the loose ball for his first for the club, his team mates and the Gaffer to make the final score 0-7.

Overall the play from Woodside and MK Wanderers Kestrels was superb with virtually no fouls, parents support was very good on both sides and 0-7 didn't show the passion the Woodies played with, and led by skipper Matthew, this was by far the most composed and professional way the Kestrels have played so far and shows they are working well as a team, Ben was missed today as it could have been more.

The boys recieved a generous round of applause from the travelling parents and it was the Gaffers wish they all have a happy and safe Christmas.

MK Wanderers U9 6 Waterhall Stars 1

Anybody ask for six of the best?

Another well fought game was played today against Waterhall Stars, they came out very strong and within the first 30 seconds had hit the post and the the ball ran along the goal line only for Jason to pounce on it and save the day. A couple more shots came at the Kestrels goal within the first 5 mins, thankfully Jason was on top form , with Youseff and Jamie helping to clear the lines, the lads realised that Waterhall Stars were here for the game .

The Kestrels started to settled into the game, after the early scares and started to play some good football, once again Matthew was very vocal and pulled the lads into shape listening to Darrens orders coming over, Connor and Dairan were now tearing into their defence with some very good footwork, but the Stars goalie was on top form palming the shots wide, 3 successive corners played in by Matthew and Jake failed to find the net with a long shot as the ball came out the area.

Jake passed to Ben who slipped the ball to Connor who, without any fear, ran at their defence and with fantastic footwork hit the ball home and made it 1-0, almost an identical move makes it 2-0 three minutes later, the boys are now finding a very good tempo, with Jake,Youseff and Jamie holding the back strong .

The goal of the match comes when Jason kicks out only for Dairan to chest it down, he looks up and sees the goalie off his line, tries a chip from just passed the halfway line, and it goes sailing over the Stars goalie and into the top corner of the net, the parents are amazed by such skill and vision , none more so than his parents and so 3-0 .

Ben tries a shot on goal but it goes just wide, Jamie clears his line to Matthew who passes it to Connor who once again tears into the defence and makes it 4-0 and his hatrick, the Stars goalie is subbed in order to give the other goalie a taste of the game and he makes several good saves to keep it 4-0 at half time.

Darren has a team talk, and explains the team must communicate more and use the players in space, second half and Connor and Dairan are both denied goals by an excellent Stars goalie, 4 successive corners fail to produce a goal because of excellent defending by the young girl playing in defence, at the other end Connor recieves the ball, Jamie calls for it thinking he is unmarked only to have the ball taken off him and it's a goal for Stars, 4-1 .

With their heads up the Kestrels start to attacks again, with Kenzo and Ben taking the ball into the box but unable to finish, Ben working so hard yet again, recieves another injury, Connor breaks free , has a shot from the right only to see it palmed away by the goalie, the loose ball falls at Matthew's feet and he chips it in the net making it 5-1 .

Jason now has very little to do now but controls the defence vocally as Jake is getting to just about every loose ball, Dairan collects a Stars goal kick and runs direct to the goalie and with such calm footwork, slots home his second making it 6-1.

Kenzo has ran his socks off and is given a break, Jamie goes up front, he collects the ball from the middle and manages to skip round 2 players and runs on goal with only the Stars goalie to beat, only tired legs, a superb goalie and the post denies him of his 1st goal for the Kestrels, the whistle is then blown for full time, full credit must go to the goalies and defenders of Waterhall Stars for an excellent game.

As for the Kestrels, they have shown they need fear no team, Connor and Dairan are superb, Jake,Youseff, Matthew and Jamie are very strong, Kenzo Learning to get into space and Ben just does not give up, Jason very strong in goal today and possibilly one of his best matches,The parents were right behind the lads yet again, one nearly had a heart attack when his boy ran to goal! imagine if he had scored?, bet the shirt would have come off!

The lads done as the Gaffer wanted and come away with a well deserved win

Under 10 Shield game
Mk Wanderers Kestrels 2 v Mk Wanderers Hawks 0

Well what a game!!!

That wouldn't have looked out of place on the BIG screen, both teams comprising of very good footballers, started off in the spirit that the game was to continue through to the final whistle, from the start the combination of Ryan, Michael and Ben Arnold were putting pressure on both Jake, Jamie, Youseff and Craig to defend to their best with several early crosses coming in, Jason having to pull off some great saves, Matthew, the Kestrels captain, was having to be very vocal and strong in midfield.

10 mins into the game and both teams were now finding that each team was going to be hard to break down, Michael, Daniel, Liam and Ryan were again breaking into the defence and some great footwork from the Hawks were allowing them into the box, on the counter attacks, Dairan, Connor and Ben were forcing their way into the box but unable to put the ball in the back of the net mainly due to some awesome defending by the 2 Ben's and a great save by Mattie

Craig, Matthew and Youseff were recieving the ball from Jason and were able to run at the defenders with both strikers breaking through only to be stopped in their tracks, Ben was working hard down the wing and for his troubles was injured more than once in strong but excellent tackles.

The Hawks were now controlling most of the game coming to half time, the ball racing through the goal mouth, but with no one to stick a toe out, the game remained at 0-0 as half time was blown.

Both managers having team talk's were asking for more of the same 2nd half, as the parents were trying hard to somehow stay warm with refreshments and more layers of clothes going on!

The 2nd half got under way and was as passionate as the 1st, Daniel and Liam now working hard for the Hawks were being fed the ball from Ryan and Michael who had no fear in running towards the box, Jake intercepted the ball and passed it down to Connor who ran at Mattie and put it just wide, Kenzo came back on and worked well in the corner, feeding the ball back to Connor only for the shot to go wide, again counter attacks from the Hawks were dangerous, with Jake Barter taking on 3 Defenders and making an Excellent cross but the ball found its way across the face of the goal, again none of the Hawks being able to stretch that important toe to it.

The move of the match came when Craig intercepted the ball and passed it to Connor who some how split the defence and ran to goal and buried the ball despite a great attempt by Mattie to get a touch, Dairan, Connor, Matthew and Ben are now hungry for goals, Jamie moved up to the wing and put some good balls in the box, the Hawks trying to find a way through the solid partnership of Youseff and Jake .

Connor made it 2-0, with 3 minutes left on the clock, with another fine attacking run at the Hawks defence.

The final whistle is blown to end a fantastic game with virtually no fouls or unfair play, and with both teams proving a credit to both MK Wanderers and their parents.
