Woburn Lions Whirlwinds 0 v MK Wanderers Kestrels 4
On a cold and icy morning the boys travelled to Woburn for their 1st game of 2008, could they carry on from 2007.
The pitch was a little hard, although thawed very quickley, leaving the pitch sticky and bobbly, control was going to be difficult.
Both teams adapted quickley and the first half began tightly, Kestrels creating a few chances. Youseff was clearing everything Woburn could throw at the Kestrels, Dairan up front looking for good positions, Matthew controlling the middle of the park and organising the team.
Connor was full of running, although the bobbly pitch was making him work harder to keep the ball. Jason dealt with the couple of chances Woburn had, Jake and Jamie doing their bit in defence, Craig taking the game to Woburn's defence with a few runs down the wing, and Ben seem to be coping better than most with the conditions and playing some lovely through balls, Kenzo full of running and tracking down their players and making some good tackles and in a moment of billiance controlling the ball with the outside of his foot and hitting a volley just past the post.
Woburn's defence stood firm until Connor got the ball, went on a little run through a couple of players and slid the ball past the keeper.
Half time 0-1
The 2nd half started and Kestrels soon got into their stride, Ben and Dairan playing some lovely one twos to open Woburn up.
Form a Kestrels goal kick, taken by Jake, the ball found it's way to Dairan who skipped past 1 defender and calmly lifted the ball into the net.
Woburn came back strong, with Jason not wanted to go home without a clean sheet.
With Kestrels on the attack, the ball was played out wide to Dairan, who's cross to the back post was there for Matthew to tap into the net.
Chances were still coming at each end, Jason making 2 great saves to deny Woburn, Connor with a couple of chances and the boys all working hard to the end.
A cross from Craig fell to Dairan's right foot and after missing his 1st attempt, he dug the ball from under his feet and onto his trusty left and drilled one in the net.
On a bobbly pitch both teams managed to play a good game of football, with the ball being played mainly on the floor, a credit to both teams. |
