Saturday 19th April 2008 MK Wanderers Hawks 1:1 Water Eaton
Hawks had been looking forward to this one for a couple of weeks now. You can sense the change of attitude in the team. They have an air of confidence about them even though the last time these two met it was a proper 4 : 0 drubbing. Right from the start Water Eaton knew they were against a team who have come on leaps and bounds since they last met. That said, the visitors were always going to be looking for their third win of the season. Wanderers started the liveliest passing the ball around the field with ease. Water Eaton number 10 seamed up for it more than the rest with some good runs through the middle of the park one of which finishing with a great shot and equally good save from Matty. Joseph picked up the ball from Matty and made a strong run straight at the Water Eaton defence. Jordan picked up a rebound off the defender and got his shot away – just wide. The Water Eaton goalie got a quick pass away to the lively number 10 who ran three quarters of the pitch and released a powerful shot into the bottom corner of the Hawks goal – 0 : 1. Again the Hawks showed their confidence in themselves. Jake stopped the ball in defence and played a neat pass to Ryan who made a great run down the left, with his pass just missing the foot of Jordan in front of goal and being cleared for a corner. Ben B floated in the resulting corner with great accuracy which was just headed clear. The second half started as the first finished with great runs from Liam and Jordan in the first couple of minutes. Water Eaton were pushing for a second goal and giving Wanderers plenty of space up front. Michael and Jake were more than a match for the Water Eaton strikers. Brandon too was enjoying the extra space with some good runs and a few telling passes. Ryan was causing mayhem up the left wing and Joseph was making his presence felt on the right. Water Eaton hadn’t given up and again their number 10 found his way through with a great shot at goal. Again Matty was there at full stretch to save. The gaffer was getting jumpy now so he decided to push Jake into midfield and Ben B up front with Jordan. This left Michael at the back on his own which he seemed to relish. The gamble could have failed but on 57 minutes Ben B was put in by Ryan from the left and only had the goalie to beat. Ben struck his shot early and the goalie had it covered, BUT for the first time in two games he fumbled it and Ben had the presence of mind to carry on running and whacked it in the top corner. GOAL 1 :1 Wanderers not only held on for the final three minutes but could quite easily have made it two. The boys really enjoyed this game and Ben B got the nod for man of the match over a possible four or five. |
