Saturday 21st November 2009 HAROLD & CARLTON WOLVES: 6 HAWKS: 2
Hawks were slow off the mark and unfortunately Kieran, our new goalkeeper, had to pick the ball out of the net inside the first minute after a speculative shot from Wolves found its way into the goal. Despite this setback, Kieran soon regained his confidence and made a fine save a few minutes later to keep Hawks in the match.
Wolves showed a greater hunger for the ball and continued to have most of the possession, which lead to a 2nd goal after 12 minutes following some neat passing.
Hawks managed a couple of attempts on goal during the rest of the first half, with shots from Ben and Harry R. going over the bar and Harry S. not quite managing to finish off a nice move. Kieran continued to grow in confidence, saving bravely at the feet of the Wolves’ forwards.
The 2nd half display was much better, as Hawks let the ball do the work and began to create some chances. Marley finally made the breakthrough after 8 minutes as he picked up a ball from Tyler and placed the ball in the bottom left – hand corner of the goal.
Wolves hit back with 2 more goals midway through the half, before Alfie coolly slotted the ball home after 20 minutes to make the score 4 – 2. Two further goals from Wolves late in the game made the final score 6 – 2. This wasn’t one of the best displays we’ve seen from Hawks, particularly compared to the hard working team performances that they’ve put in over the last couple of weeks against stronger opponents. The highlight of the match was Kieran’s contribution in goal, and he fully deserved the Achievement Award he received at the end.
